Chapter Eight: All aboard

"No, I got a guy named River as my roommate." he said as he bunched up his eyebrows.

"Well, I'm River and I'm your roommate." I said pushing past him into the apartment. It was somewhat big, it had a modern layout and mostly the colors red, black, and white. I dragged my bags into the living room. "So which room is mine?" he was about to answer but a girl came out of one of the rooms yawning, she wore just a lace bra and shorts.

She looked up at me and smiled. "Hi, I'm Jaylen! Who are you?" She extended her hand to me.

I hesitantly held out my hand. "I'm River." I was beginning to become uncomfortable.

Her face got really happy and she started looking at me "OMG! Like a river in a forest?" I looked at Luke and gave him an eyebrow raise.

"Well just point me to a room then I'll leave." I said as Jaylen left the room to eagerly grab an Activia.

"Down the hall." He said as he walked off towards Jaylen. Ok, I totally hate this guy so far. I should've met him before moving in.

I walked into the room and dropped  my bags. It was a medium sized room with a bed frame, and chipped paint. I sighed as I walked out the door. I walked down the old stairs and my phone rang.

I answered it not looking at who the caller was. "Go for River." I said as I opened the door to go outside.

"It's Finn." I smiled hearing someone who I actually like.

"Oh, hey. What you up to?" I walked down the sidewalk to go visit the beach.

"Nothing much. What about you?" He asked.

"Heading to the beach. Wait, don't you have an uncle who lives up here with a boat? Uncle Bert?" I said stopping for a minute.

"It's uncle Bernie, and yeah. Why?" He asked me.

"Wanna get together Alex at the beach?" I asked as I started heading back to my apartment.

"Sure, I'll text him. See you then." He said before I hung up. As I was walking up the stairs I saw Jaylen jogging down the stairs crying.

I got up the stairs and knocked on the door. Luke opened it then closed it as I walked in.

"I'm heading to the beach, if you want to come you can." I said rummaging through my clothes looking for a swimsuit.

I picked up a baby blue plunge bikini, and topped it off with boyfriend jean shorts, a white caftan, a wide brim fedora hat, some white flip flops, and sunglasses.

I walked out of my room and went into the kitchen. I looked through the cabinets, searching for food. I found a bag of Fritos and took them. I then realized something.

"Hey do you have a spare key?" I yelled to Luke. He walked into the kitchen in swim trunks, and a surfer tank.

"We can stop for one on the way back." He said.

There was then a knock at the door and my eyes widened. Luke got this smug look on his face like he knew someone I know is here.

I knew it was Finn coming to pick me up, looks like Luke will be tagging along.

We both pushed each other out of the way to get the door, but being my clumsy self, I tripped on thin air and landed on my butt.

I hugged as he opened the door. "Is there a River here?" Finn asked grumpily to a smirking Luke. They were both the same height and I was one foot shorter than them.

I got up and walked over to the door. "I'm here!" I said pushing Luke out of the way.

Finn bent down towards my face. "Is he tagging along?"

"Yes, but don't mind him." I knew there was going to be some competition against all the guys, I mean come on, they're boys.

I then got a hint of worry in my voice as a cracked this sentence out. "Is Alex coming?" Finn hesitated but then said the words I didn't want to hear.

"Yes." I cringed but then remembered Luke could hear us.

"Who's Alex? Is he your ex or something?" He said looking at us with a confused face.

I just groaned and walked out the door. "He's just someone you're going to meet." I said stomping down the stairs. I walked towards my truck and got in the middle. I crossed my arms waiting, only to hear the honk of a horn behind me, the boys were in a jeep, which I'm guessing is Luke's.

I got out and locked my truck hopping in the car. I sat in the back to be greeted to a rubber thing on the seat. "Hey Luke?" I said disgusted.

"Hmm?" He said texting on his phone.

"Why is there a condom on the seat?" He whipped his head up and threw it onto the street flustering. I burst out laughing but then stopped as I sat down. "We need to change some rules, ok?" he took his turning groaning as we drove down the street.

I played with my shirt as we drove through the forest listening to the song Training Wheels by Melanie Martinez. I hummed along until we stopped at a little cottage that is on the lake. I saw a speed boat with tubing gear, and I already knew there was skis on the boat.

"Ok all aboard." Finn said walking towards the boat, as we got closer I saw Alex sitting in the passenger seat drinking some drink.

"Who's the tool?" Alex stood up looking Luke up and down. Finn coughed, and I looked away as Luke glared at us.

"You mean you? Cause' I would like to know who you are Mr.Tool." I mentally said burn inside my head.

They both glared at each other. "He's my roommate Alex. Alex meet Luke, Luke meet Alex. Now can we go do things on the water please without arguments or fights. Please?" The boys grunted and Finn helped me on the boat.

I sat at my favorite part of speed boats, the end of it. "Let's get this show on the road!" I yelled taking a sip of my Pepsi. Finn started up the boat as we drove into the water.
