Dedicated to brinthaa_m who's been here from the beginning. LOVE YOU.
I was music deprived.
I stared at the ceiling, laying on my back on the single bed. The sun starting to peek through the clouds.
Thoughts about yesterday clouded my mind and a series of questions were embedded in my brain. I wanted to plug in some earphones and hear Melanie Martinez's and Halsey's voice. I was craving some Indie and alternative rock to calm me down but I had nothing. No gadgets. No music.
The minute Callum's 'mother' had said those last few words, I took that as a que to leave. I should've left a long time ago. I didn't know whether I should tell Callum that I over heard that conversation or let it pass.
I heaved myself up and slowly walked towards the room with the loose floorboard to pay a visit to Callum's room. I wasn't sure what I was going to say but I knew I had to see him.
I cautiously lowered the floorboard after entering Callum's room. Quiet. Everything was quiet. Maybe he wasn't here. I peered out the door and noticed Callum in the living room with his head in his hands. But he wasn't alone. Rosie was rubbing his back with a worried expression but more importantly, opposite him on the sofa was Christopher. He was staring into space. His face blank. I inhaled a sharp breath at the sight of him. There was so much tension in the room but I had the instinct to go in.
Christopher's head whipped around at the sound of my footsteps. "Adria?"
I gave a weak smile. I missed the sound of his voice. "What's going on?" I whispered.
"Nothing," Callum said, a bit too quickly. "Adria has a right to know. Rosie knows-" Christopher started with his teeth clenched but Callum interrupted, "That's because Rosie was there!"
"I was there too," I said, avoiding eye contact. Callum raised his head. "You eavesdropped?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. That lady just entered and gave that weird vibe and I just had to stop and listen. I kept telling myself to go but I didn't. I'm so sorry. I wont talk about it," I stumbled on my words hoping that he would understand.
"It's okay." Christopher sighed. "No it isn't!" Callum exclaimed. "I'm so sorry to say this Adria but I don't trust you. You're warming up to Jack and you guys seem pretty close. How do I know that you wont go and tell him!?"
My mouth hung open. His words struck me. "Callum I can't believe you think that I would tell Jack something like that! I don't think you know who I am!"
"You're warming up to Jack?" Christopher asked.
I sighed, "I don't really know what you guys mean as warming up. It's true that I'm not punching him in the face and always saying horrible things to him but that does not mean I suddenly like him again. He's done mistakes and I have too. He said that he'll let me out after a month and I don't want that thought in his brain to change."
Callum snorted, "I can't believe you still think Jack's going to let you out after a month. You have to get your head round the fact that we're your only hope."
"Don't trust Jack," Rosie suddenly said. "I fell under that trap and it's ruined me. That's why Callum is bent upon you not trusting Jack seeing the effects it has had on me. Listen to Callum okay?"
"Let's go somewhere. I'm sick of this," Christopher said getting up and walking towards the door. "Who's coming?"
"They will catch us. There are so many cameras around here and where do you plan on going?" I asked.
