“You're welcome. If you’re going to react like this, then I’ll confess more of my good deeds more often,” his breath tickled her ear and whispered through her hair, which had come undone from her pony tail.

She pulled away slightly, “You’ve done other things?”

“Yeah, hey, come back here. Why did you do that?”

“Because I don’t like you like that,” she replied.

“Then why didn’t you pull away all the way?” he challenged.

“I feel safe here, with you,” she confessed.

“Really?”

“Why would I lie? It’s just us out here, so I don’t have to be embarrassed. And, if anyone does find out, I can either poison your food, or stab you in your sleep,” her light tone suggested a joke.

“You would really do that?”

“You doubt me?”

“No,” he chuckled, “Just doesn’t seem like your style.”

“I can’t beat you fairly, so I have very few options. . . for now. Will you teach me?”

“What about Aireya? I figured you would take to her, before me.”

“No,” she said slowly, “she needs to teach Devan.”

“I’ll take your word for it. I like it here, but my stomach is demanding food. Let’s go get some. When do you want these lessons to start?”

She grinned and twirled away, “Just come to my room whenever. Now, let’s go see what you people eat in this world.”

Stormy tried mutton, roasted boar, a spiral-shaped vegetable called ducci, and a meat pie. She also ate mashed potatoes and gravy and regular food. Devan was less adventurous, sticking to foods that he knew. Devan melted in with the crowd instantly. But, Stormy was regarded with caution. Gradually, she was accepted.

After midday Stormy, Devan, Lilly Fire, and Saphire were herded into a large, open room. Evans stood in front, Stormy blushed.”First, you will study the language of Grammarye. Here are your dictionaries.” He produced two think scrolls. “Okay, Grammarye lesson done for today. Follow me and we’ll see how your archery skills are.”

After their archery accession, in which of course they performed excellently, they were sent to their rooms to explore and rest until dinner.

When they were in front of their rooms, no chance of being overheard, Devan turned around abruptly. He grabbed her upper arms. Lilly said, “Uh-oh, I am off of here.”

“What is going on with you and Evans? I leave you alone with him for five minutes. Five minutes! And, now, you’re in love with him!” Devan’s voice had that controlled tone and volume that meant he was very angry.

“Dev! I am not in love with him!” suddenly angry she snapped, “And, on top of that, you’re the one who left me alone with him in the first place!”

“I saw how he “helped” you position you bow. He acted out of line, and you didn’t say anything! Yeah, I left you alone so you could work out things so you could learn not to get killed!”

“Well, I’m sorry we’re friends now! It’s not my fault I learned some things and had this really weird moment where he and I kind of connected!” she shouted.

“What? Why?”

“He’s been protecting me!”

“And I never did. That’s fine. I get it,” he stormed into his room and slammed the door.
