Red lights. Blue lights. Hints of white lights.
I couldn't make out the faces as they rushed around me.
I was confused and lost in myself.
I didn't know what was going to happen, if I was going to make it.
I felt someone ruffle through my hair and I opened my eyes slowly. "Oh thank god," My mother whispered as he put her head on top of mine. I heard noises and looked down the bed I was on at my brother who came towards me. My mother moved from me and my brother came up next to me. "We were so worried," he told me, "They told us you probably weren't going to make it." Tears started to roll down his cheek and I brought my hand up to his face and wiped them away. "Thanks," he whispered. "No problem," I replied. "So glad to see you talking," said a nurse coming into my room, "There has been tons of people at your school wondering if you were okay." "What day is it?" I asked. "It is four in the morning," she informed me as she looked at some numbers, "February fourth. You could go to school today if you wanted to." She looked down at me, expecting for me to say no. "I'll go," I replied. She raised an eyebrow in shock. "You will have to be super careful," she told me, grabbing something from the counter, "Keep this on you at all times." She handed me a small remote with a red button. "Click this if you need help," she said before leaving, "I'll check you guys out."
I watched the clock as it turned time for me to get ready. I put on my school uniform and held onto the remote. My mother put my hair in a braid and I gave her a big hug. "What did he want?" I asked her. "I'm not sure honey," she replied, "Some people are just messed up like that." I nodded and got up. Theo came behind me in his uniform and handed me my bag. I followed him out the front door as my mother watched me. A familiar boy was standing at the corner. Once he saw us he raced over. He gave me a hug around my neck to be careful of my back. I hugged him tightly. The three of us walked down the street and out of our neighborhood to school. Theo took off with his friends once we walked inside and I walked down the hall next to Luke. "I posted a video," he whispered to me, "on YouTube." I smiled and gave him a high five. "Hey," said one of his friends, coming up to him.
"Hey Michael," Luke replied, stopping. I stopped next to him because I had nothing else to do. "I saw your video last night," He explained, "You're really good." I rolled my eyes and patted Luke's shoulder. "I'm going to go to class," I told him, "See you later." He said bye and turned back to his friend. I walked down the hall and into my first class. "Glad to see you walking," The teacher told me as other students walked inside and looked at me. I slid into my chair in the third row and looked at the board. "Are you okay?" Asked the person next to me. I turned and looked at the boy with dark hair. "I'm fine," I replied, "I mean, it hurts like hell, but I'm fine." He smiled and looked at the board then back at me. I rolled my eyes and looked ahead.
"Okay class," The teacher said as he sat on top of his desk, "The principle wanted me to talk to you guys about safety because of what happened the other day when Queen here was shot twice." I was trying to sink down in my chair without it hurting my back. Eyes turned towards me and I could feel my face glowing a red color. "Now," The teacher went on, "These are the rules." He started talking and explaining what do do in situations and I almost cried. "It's okay," Whispered the boy next to me, my friend, "Don't dread it, it wasn't your fault." I turned to him and his dark eyes were staring into my blue ones. "Calum," I whispered, "You literally have no idea." He rolled his eyes and stared back at me. He looked at my face and felt my forehead with his hand. "You got a fever Queen," he whispered to me, removing his hand. "Whatever," I replied, "I got class after school and I ain't missing it." There was silence in the class. "Calum," The teacher said, "Queen, are you two paying attention?" "Yes sir," I replied, turning around.
