Yayyyy! We got to 1k reads! So in celebration, here Chapter Nine!
I woke with a start as I shot up in bed. The dream I had awoken from was quickly forgotten. I pushed the covers to the side and checked the time, 3:24. I sighed and walked down the stairs to get to the kitchen. I reached into the cabinet for a cup and filled it with water. I leaned up against the counter and stared at the floor. Alec's jacket was still there.
I grabbed my cup and walked back up the stairs. I placed the cup on my side table and slipped back under the covers. My mind raced as I tried my best to remember my dream. Images flashed over the backs of my eye lids. My eyes snapped open as a single tear trickled down my cheek. Realization washed over me like an unwanted chill.
I closing my eyes once more, and the images came back. Two small children playing in a field, making flower crowns and giggling. Two small innocent children with no clue how cruel the world could be. How cruel the people they trusted could be. The smile fell from the oldest face, the youngest oblivious to the boy approaching. The boy looked angry and was walking fast toward the youngest.
"Alec! Stop it!" In panic the oldest tried stopping the boy. She pushed him with all her might but he never faltered. The boy pushed her aside like she was nothing but dirt on his shoulder. "Alec, she didn't mean it!"
When the boy reached the youngest he grabbed her by the arm and raised his hand. She let out a scream as she wiggled out of his grasps. She ran as fast as she could with tears blurring her vision, the boy hot on her heals. Looking back to check where the boy was, the girl continued to run. She oblivious to the quickly approaching car. Shrieking tires pierced through the silent air. The oldest raced to the other, but there was nothing she could do.
"Clara!"

I slumped my way to class with Peyton rambling about my outfit. After having an almost sleepless night, I had decided on a simple hoodie with light jeans and black converse. I left my black hair in its natural state. Aden and John caught up with us at my locker. John must have noticed my silence because he leaned down to ask me if i was alright.
"I'm fine." ,I replied closing my locker. "I've got to get to class. See you guys at lunch." I walked off to Literature without another word. I didn't have to turn around to know they were staring at me as I stalked away.
"Okay, students. Today's discussion topic: "Why did Jim let Silver escape? (Treasure Island)"
"Sir, Jim obviously cared a great deal about Silver. How could he turn him in?", said a girl in the back.
"Yes, but Silver did betray his trust. After all they had done, he was like a father to Jim. Imagine how he felt when he learned of his plans." , the boy beside her argued.
"Maybe Silver left because he was trying to protect Jim. And Jim let him go because he knew he had too." ,I murmured.
"Yes, but we know that Silver is greedy. All he has ever cared about is himself." ,Mr. Lennon questioned.
"That maybe true. It's for sure that he left for himself, but Silver knew he wasn't good for Jim. So what stopped him from leaving because of that?"
After that the room got quiet and we dropped the subject. But my mind was still reeling.
He only wanted to protect him.
At lunch I sat back in my seat, listening to the conversation. I didn't join in too much. I noticed John staring at me out of the corner of my eye. My eyebrows dipped in a confused expression.
"Hey, John?" ,I asked. His head turned to face me completely.
"Yes, love?" ,he asked.
"Can you... See me. At least a little?" ,I questioned. "I just noticed you were staring at me."
"I'm not as blind as you think," He laughed. "I can see some shadows, but that's about it."
"Oh, okay." ,I said sitting up straighter. John leaned back in his chair. He smiled at me, his grey eyes twinkling. I couldn't help, but smile back. His messy brown hair swayed as he turned to face the others once again. He crossed his arms over his chest and closed his eyes, sighing. My head tilted to the side in confusion. Was he frustrated about something?
"Hey, Rowen!" ,Peyton snapped me out out of my thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Do you have a date to prom yet?" Johns eyes shot open, his attention now completely on the conversation.
"Nope. Why?"
"Just wondering.", she shrugged. Her eyes drifted to connect with Aden's before she looked away.
"Well what happened to that jock you were going with?" ,I asked . Aden's head whipped to give her a questioning look. Peyton simply shrugged.
"Dumped him. He's too... dense." Aden seemed to relax at this statement. "Anyways, me and Aden have to go do a... um... thing."
"What thing? We don't have a-" Peyton cut him off by kicking him under the table, followed by an ouch and a death glare. "Oh! Right, that thing! Well we better go then." They quickly got up and left.
"Well then.", I said turning to John.
"Um, hey Rowen?'
"Yes?"
"Do you want to, maybe, go see a movie? With me?" , he asked rubbing the back of his neck.
"I would love to John, but..."
"What?", he asked concerned.
"You sort of can't see the movie."
"Ah, yes. But I can hear it. And I'm fine as long as you're there.", he smiled.
"In that case, yes I would love too." I grabbed his hand leading him out of the cafeteria and off to our next period.
The next two periods were impossible to focus in. My mind raced the whole time with questions such as: Is this a date? What do I wear? Does it matter what I wear? What will he wear? It was impossible not to stare at the back of his head the whole time.
The bell rang and we were dismissed. I grabbed John's hand and lead him out of the classroom and to our lockers. Aden and Peyton were already there waiting for us. I quickly shuffled through my locker, putting a few things in and taking a few things out. Once we had all finished up, I grabbed John's hand once again and we trailed behind Peyton and Aden.
"Oh and one more thing.", John said as he stopped. Peyton and Aden not noticing continued to walk away.
Before I knew it, John had grabbed me from behind, wrapping his arms around my waist. He tilt his head down to whisper in my ear. His hot breathe fanned out over the right side of my face. My heart began to beat faster and my breathe hitched.
"It is a date.", he whispered making me shiver. He released my waist and walked away.
What the hell was that?
I placed a hand over my heart, trying to make it beat as it normally did. This boy was going to be the death of me.
