"Hera! Hurry up, come on, mom is waiting outside!" Jeez, calm your ass down, I'm coming. Why does this annoying pest need to come along with me? My brother has got to be, hand down, the bane of my existence. At times, he can be a total sweetie, but 99.9% of the time? Nope. It's finally summer break and I've been waiting forever for this, just so I can go to grandma's place and have some relaxing time by the waters out back at her house, eating tons of delicious food. You see, we used to stay together, but they decided to go backpacking around the world and as of now, they've decided to settle down in the beautiful, glorious city of Venice. Best thing is, my grandparents love me more and trust me to be able to take care of myself on my own, so whenever I visit, they'll always leave me alone to do whatever I want, pushing all of their concerns and worries in my brother's direction. I can't wait to get out in the sun. Making sure I have all my belongings packed, I lug my luggage down the stairs, with two of my other bags. One a purse and the other a purple duffel.
"Slow poke." I hear Eros call out from the car parked out front. I roll my eyes. For 15, he's still so childish and frustrating.
"Shut up Eros. Or I'll personally castrate you myself." I retort. Not wanting any more distracting teasing. When I get out the door and lock it, I see dad's already loading up the other baggage me and Eros have, and his and mom's into the car too. Even though it was supposed to be a family trip, mom and dad got tickets from Aunt Gina to go to London. And because they only had 2 tickets, they couldn't bring us along. I mean, I would've loved it if I could go with, but at least we get to go somewhere interesting too.
Phew, these things are heavy. Some man Eros is, he isn't even helping put in his luggage. I dump my purse in the back seat through the window together with him and help dad with the other bags. When I lift up Eros' bag, unprepared for how heavy it was, I immediately drop it and my whole body sags. Jesus Christ. What does he have in there? A dead body? I try to once again lift it up and is successful for a few seconds before dad rushes to my rescue.
"I'll get that pumpkin. It's okay." I sigh.
"Sorry dad, I was just trying to help." He smiles then tells me to go into the car. I open the door and as I sit down, I heave a sigh of relief. Finally. I can't wait to get there. Now there's just 2 hours till our flight.
Wow. The airport seems pretty well decorated. There is an exhibition going on and I guess that's why. It's now 1 hour till our flight and we're sitting inside a relatively small and fancy boutique cafe having lunch. Eros has decided to use his time wisely, playing card games with dad. I on the other hand is scoffing down a sinful amount of cupcakes. I L.O.V.E sweet stuff. It's a miracle I'm not fat. With the amount of sweet stuff I eat it's surprising.
"Honey, take care of your brother okay? We're going to go now." Mom says as she looks over at the two playing, and she shakes her head.
"I said, we are going to go now." She says again, trying to get dad's attention. I cover my mouth, giggling and she rolls her eyes, 'tsk'ing.
"Wait a minute." Dad says without looking up and mom pokes him in the shoulder, an irritated expression on her face. Soon enough dad gives up and starts to pack up the cards, much to Eros' displeasure, carrying all the other baggage as mom leaves after kissing me and Eros both on the forehead. When they're out of sight, I decide the best thing to do is to play some Candy Crush on my phone. The game makes me so annoyed and frustrated at myself for nothing but it's fun, so why not.
A while after they've left, I look at my watch. Wow. Time sure does fly when you're having fun.
"Eros, let's go." He looks up from his computer and nods, stashing it back inside his bag and we set off to our gate.
~After the 8 1/2 hour flight @ Venice Marco Polo Airport~
That was one long journey... It's about time we reached. I had a really annoying guy sitting behind me too, freaking kicking the seat every few minutes. It was so bad I had to turn round and tell the bastard to stop. He's got to be one of the most inconsiderate people I've met. Now that's over, I have the task of getting our luggage off the baggage claim without accidentally hitting anyone with it. Eros has wandered off to get some sandwiches to aid his hunger, so much for looking after him. Sorry mom. Guess I'm doing this alone then.
I push out a baggage cart and put my purse and duffel on the top basket part of it, whipping my phone out to text mom that we've reached. On the flight, I had already changed my SIM card to an Italian one, as to not have cellular charges so it was pretty easy getting it started up. A bright blue bag with tons of random stickers on is what I'm looking for. Apparently the last time mom and dad went for a travel together, they thought that it was a good idea to 'mark' their whole luggage with stickers. Aha! Found it. I go up front and drag it off, successfully might I add and having great timing as always, I see Eros approaching.
"Hey, I've got our things already, mom gave me the address of grandma's place so now we need to go and get a water taxi. You got everything you need?" I ask him, making sure he hasn't left anything behind. He rolls his eyes at me, walking further ahead.
"Of course not. Do you think I'm dumb or something? The water taxi is this way, I passed it when I got my sandwich." He points to the left.
"Kay, let's go." I say, turning to the left.
"Hera! You're going the wrong way." He says laughing. Wow. I have no words. I shake my head and look up at the signs to tell me where to go instead.
"You do realize, I'm the one with the money right?" His face blanks, but the quickly recovers himself.
"Fine fine. I'm sorry." I sigh.
"You are a pain." I say and he grins.
"Just doing my job." now it's my turn to roll my eyes.
"I can't wait to see grandpa and grandma." Eros scoffs.
"Yea that's cause they like you. They ignore me half he time." I giggle. True that.
Finally, we are able to get a taxi and we reach the address. It's so pretty. Damn. The house is of a baby pink color, windows rimmed white with a brick roof. And it's right by the water too. Easy access I would guess. Well, that's a good thing cause no one would need to worry if there were to be a fire. Not only that, but there's another entrance too, over where there are pavements and where the shops are. I can't wait to see the night scene at San Marco Square.
"Welcome my darling! I hope the trip wasn't too long. I've missed you do much!" My grandparents gush as I walk in, giving me hugs.
"I've missed you too." I say, hugging them back as tightly as I can.
"I'm here too you know." Eros says, half annoyed. And we all laugh, and proceed to have a family hug. After a while when we're all settled in, I find the time to unpack my bag, and thankfully, I don't need to share a room with my brother. We each got to pick our own rooms out of the 3 extra ones and as of right now, we're using the 3rd extra room as a place to store our luggage and other stuff first.
By the time I'm done fitting my clothes into the closet and taking out all my other belongings, traveling from one room back to the other carrying my essentials, like body wash, shampoo, conditioner and all my other accessories, ect., ect., I hear the door bell ring and when it continues to ring like an alarm gone wrong, I run downstairs to check who's there.
"Coming!" I holler when I'm half way down the stairs. And opening the door, I have never been this shocked in all my life. It's that idiot from the plane, with a box in his hand smirking at me. This has to be the weirdest thing ever. I'm just left standing there dumb founded.
"Didn't think I'll see you again Miss complain freak." Oh he did not.
"Excuse me, but you were the one kicking my seat." He shrugs his shoulders, maintaining a nonchalant face.
"So, can I come in?" The nerve.
"Of course not!"
"But if got homemade chicken pie." He says, making a puppy dog face. Who is this freak and why is he here? Suddenly, I hear footsteps behind me.
"What's going o- Oh Hera honey, you've met our neighbor, Eli. Didn't know you were coming back so early boy. Come on in!" Neighbor?! You can't be serious. I turn back to look at him my mouth agape, stepping to the side and he winks at me. Oh god.
