The clatter of rocks on the cliff above me pulled me out of my deep train of thought. I glanced upwards, seeing a mother doe and her fawn prancing along the edge. They caught a whiff of my scent and disappear from my viewpoint. I quickly gathered my art supplies, for I had been sketching the landscape around me, and continued my way through the narrow path in the forest.
The dawn sky lit up the leaves, making them look as if they were dancing in the wind. My brown wavy hair whisped across my face as i ducked under a low lying branch. I would love to stay in the majestic embrace of nature all day, but work was beckoning. My job at the local small zoo would begin in an hour and I still had to get ready.
I entered my small cottage at the edge of the forest. The sound of humming from my roommate, Marissa, greeted me.
"Hey Katie. Out for an early walk again, I'm guessing?" She called cheerily. Marissa has been on of my closest friends since we were in grade school and knew my morning habits. We had been living together for almost six months.
"How did you know?!" I jeered jokingly. I came around the corner of my house into the kitchen, where she was making scrambled eggs for breakfast. "Yum", I purred enthusiastically. Marissa always made the best eggs.
"Hah, I knew you would be happy to see me making this. Thought I would make you one last meal before I leave for Switzerland for a month." She smiled warmly. I returned the expression and headed for my bedroom to do my hair and makeup.

My small Volkswagen Rabbit's engine roared as I press the pedal down the highway in the direction of the Littlesburg Zoo. My mind was occupied on the events of the zoo, including the new arrival of a female bison. I pulled into the parking lot and exited the car.
"Hey Katie!" My coworker Rory called from a few parking spaces over. I've always had the feeling that he looked at me more than a fellow caretaker.
"Hi. How are you today?" I said as I grabbed my satchel of equipment. Rory went on elaborating on the events of the morning, but I barely heard. A weird feeling had come over me, almost as if I'm anticipating something.
It quickly passed over, but the mysteriousness of it shrouded my mind. Maybe, just maybe, something exciting might occur in my life today.
