The coffee maker clicked, signalling it was done brewing. I grabbed the cup of coffee and turned the corner towards the front door. The man had just clicked the off button on the phone. He saw me with the coffee and smiled.

"Thanks, love" he said. He took he cup and took a giant swig, obviously cold. "So may I ask what your name is?"

"Katie. Yours?" I blushed. His interest embarrassed me.

"Nicholas. It's a pleasure to meet you" he murmured. He took another sip of the coffee. Even him swallowing made my heart flutter.

"And I you." I mumbled. I stared at the ground, trying to avoid his gaze. His eyes seem to pierce my soul.

"Well, thank you for letting me use your phone Katie. I do appreciate it. My friend wouldn't pick up and my car's basically done for, so I'm kinda stuck here." Nicholas explained.

"That's unfortunate. Do you have anywhere to stay?" I asked. Oh god, that British accent made even my name sound so sexy.

"Not exactly. I was going to stay in my car. I've got emergency supplies that could probably last me the night."

Nicholas said. He glanced at me, studying my expression. I was getting the feeling that he might be pushing for me to offer for him to stay at my home.

"If you want I have a cabin with heat and a bed. It wouldn't be a problem for you to use" I murmured. Damn, his beautiful eyes were so very persuasive.

"That's alright Katie. I've bothered you enough." He exclaimed. He turned to the door.

"No really! I wouldn't mind. You would probably be safer there anyways" I objected. "You never know the minds of the people who drive by and see a lone car"

"Are you sure it wouldn't be a problem?" Nicholas queried. Although I wasn't looking at him, I could sense his eyes brighten at my insist. Man, did he ever have a way with the ladies.

"Positive. Here, ill show you around" I exclaimed. I grabbed my umbrella and showed him the cabin. He grabbed his things from his car and loaded them into the small shelter.

I hastily left him to his business and went back into my cottage. 'Oh. My. God. Katie, what have you done? You just let a complete stranger, an ominous man, into your cabin for the night. What has gotten into you?!' I thought to myself. I was usually a responsible and cautious girl, I never trusted strangers to anything, but I don't know what had gotten into me that night. 'He'll be gone tomorrow, it's not like he's a permanent guest' I argued. I locked my doors and closed my windows. If Nicholas needed anything, he could ring the doorbell. He didn't need open access to my house.

Even though he was a stranger, I felt uncharacteristically safe in his presence. It was like nothing I had felt before in a male, since my father had been drunk and abusive for most of the time I had known him. He almost seemed unworldly at times, like he had some sort of power over me. I pondered these thoughts until I fell asleep.
