"I've never been to Earth before," Elizabeth Marjello said as she walked around the center console. The Doctor smiled at her as he watched her explore again, this time as a companion. The smile on her face made him feel all warm inside, like he was doing something great, getting this girl away from this place even if only for a few minutes. She moved in very fluid movements, clearly dancing to the music that was playing in her head. He remembered her from when she was younger, still just a teenager in the human world back on Earth.
"So, you want to go to Earth? It's really not that special, especially since you are used to the beauty of Zordon," The Doctor said.
"Aren't there beautiful times on Earth? I've heard of this one time. I think it was called the Runningsance," she replied.
The Doctor snorted as he tried to contain his laughter. "The Renaissance was a wonderful time period. It gave humans so much art and literature! But your culture would not do well if you come back home after being exposed to the bubonic plague. Your lot is far too suseptable to other illnesses!"
"New York City then!" Elizabeth yelled, thrusting her arm up in the air, her pointer finger extended. Her other arm was planted on her hip, she jumped so that her legs were shoulder-width apart, and lifted her head so that her face was staring at the ceiling. This was all done in one fluid movement.
"What time period?" he asked, skeptically. He was nervous. The last time he had been in New York, he had taken Charlotte from her job and then brought her back home. She was never going to see those people again and if he was seen there could be consequences.
"Now!" she exclaimed excitedly. "What year are they in now? I hope it's fun!"
The Doctor let out a sigh. "Ok, then we are headed off to June 25, 2013," he explained as he started to turn knobs and pull levers. Elizabeth gripped onto a rail just as the T.A.R.D.I.S. took off. "In just a matter of moments, you will be experiencing New York City in the United States of America on Earth."
Benjamin Jacks sat behind his desk, his fingers rubbing the corner of a picture frame that was next to his computer. Anyone who looked at it would think that it was his wife but Benny Jacks did not have a wife. He had only had a lover who he was going to make his actual girlfriend after he asked her to resign. He was going to help her find a new job or take care of her if she let him. But he lost his chance. Now, he was forced to remember the stranger who stole his reason for waking up away from him.
Charlotte Evermore had been far more than his assistant. He had fallen in love with her. Sure, he would annoy her with stupid things that bosses are supposed to request from their assistant. He needed to show everyone that there was nothing going on between them so that neither he nor Charlotte lost their jobs. He knew that she hated getting those texts and calls in the morning but his "Large Coffee, extra shot of espresso" really meant "Large Coffee, extra shot of espresso for the looks but your clothes must be off when that office door closes behind you". The love affair that he had with her was enough to drive him crazy.
"Benny, may I come in?" a husky voice asked from behind the closed door as he knocked on the door.
"Sure, Jeff," he responded, never taking his eyes away from the picture.
"You told me to come get you if the cameras picked up on anything from the day that...you know...the day that Charlotte went missing," Jeff said as he walked into the room. He was only twenty-two years old, fresh out of college. He wasn't even a New York native which was why the baristas at Starbucks gushed over his accent. He was a Texan with the stereotypical accent. Every morning, the "thank you, ma'am" that he said to them was enough to make each girl, and the occasional guy swoon. He was nervous about replacing Charlotte since they were such good friends. What if she returned with some crazy story and wanted her position back? Would Benny had changed his position or told Charlotte to step off?
