There was a dilemma that The Doctor was facing. Jeffropna had already made it clear that The Doctor, if requested, was to deny access to the T.A.R.D.I.S. to Benny. Benny was in danger. Pretty much the same way that Charlotte had been in danger. He had been running for a number of years from some race that wanted him dead. The problem now was that Benny clearly knew that he wasn't supposed to be on Earth. He knew that his home was somewhere else. And he wanted to go home.
'"My people need me, Doctor. Please, help me get back to my people," he had said.
What was he going to do? Which would be better for everyone? Elizabeth wanted an adventure. Surely, bringing this man to a different planet where a war could possibly break out was adventure enough. Jeffropna was going to do whatever it took to keep Benny and Elizabeth both safe. If that meant making sure that they both stayed on Earth with him, he would fight The Doctor to do so. Benny just wanted to go home to his people. Whatever connection that he was able to reestablish showed him that his people wanted him back home. They needed their leader. They were in some sort of trouble and it was breaking Benny with each passing second that he was unable to return home. Yes, Jeff was meant to keep him safe but at what cost? Breaking a man's spirit could be one of the worst things that can happen to anyone around him. His animal instincts would take over and he would do everything in his power to make sure that he was able to take care of the people that really needed protection. At this point in time, he did not believe that he needed the protection. He knew that his people were in danger and that was enough to make him want out of his cage. Only, this time, his cage was a different planet that happened to be in a completely different galaxy than his. Sure, it was simple for The Doctor to get to in his T.A.R.D.I.S. but this was a decision that had to be made based off of facts and rationality. It could not be made on the feelings of one man.
"Doctor, please, I need to be with my people. They need me. I can feel it," Benny said.
"What are you talking about, Benny?" Jeff asked, pulling himself away from Elizabeth and turning his attention to his client. Somehow, the memory blocker that had been placed on Benny has begun to break down. When he picked up this job one Earth year ago, he had been warned that Benny had a tendancy to break free from the blocking spells that were placed on his memories. Either he broke them down or his people had a way to break through them to try to get his attention. They were too far away from a mage that would actually be able to help them. A human who could cast small spells would not be able to cast a strong enough mind-protection spell. He needed to try to repress these memories or break the connection that he had to back home and he had to do it quickly. If he was unsuccessful, he knew that something horrible was going to happen.
"I need to go home," Benny said.
"Okay that's fine. Lets go. Elizabeth and The Doctor can leave," Jeff said, watching Benny as closely as he possibly could. He glanced over at Elizabeth for a second and then turned back to Benny. "You've been overworking yourself. You should probably go home and actually enjoy your weekend."
"Jeffropna, I order you to help me get back home!" Benny hollered. Jeff took a step back and stared at Benny. This was the first time since they had left that Benny had called Jeff by his real name. He would call him 'Jeffrey' but he would never call him by his real name. He didn't know that Benny even knew his real name.
Jeff looked at The Doctor with a pleading look in his eye. When he originally took this job, he figured that everything would run smoothly, despite the troubles that all of the other watchers had with him. When other watchers had problems with a client, Jeffropna Gillnaeus the Fourth was the one that took on the troubled clients. He was the one that was able to keep them safe until the threat was erradicated or some sort of agreement had been reached. He visits some of those clients every few hundred years or so. Most of them are still doing well or their family has taken their place due to a death, typically from some illness that ran rampant through the planet. Benny was, by far, the worst client that Jeff had come to face thus far. The worst part was knowing that The Doctor was going to try to get Benny back home. Horrible things were going to wait for both of them there.
