Jinxed

Chapter 9: Star City

The night was cloudless, and the moon was shining and lighting up the streets of Star City. We had arrived way to early, but Kid Flash thought he could give me a great vacation, so he took me out to eat pizza. As friends off course! After that we went to the movies to watch a comedy. It was nice to just have fun and enjoy the evening.

But it was almost midnight and Speedy was waiting for us at the bridge. Sitting on the back of Kid Flash, we were flashing through the city. People could feel the wind but they didn't see us, and I wondered what they thought. Normal citizens had a tendency to come up with stupid explanations, so that they didn't have to accept the fact that we had superhuman powers.

Kid Flash suddenly stopped. I looked around, and we were standing on a bridge. I jumped down and started to search for the so-called Speedy. It was even to dark, or maybe he hadn't arrived yet.

J: "I thought, we were late."

Kid Flash was just about to answer.

Speedy: "You are late."

I looked up. A boy in a red suit lowered himself down from the bridge suspender above them. The grappling cable, he was using, was attached to his bow, and he landed right in front of me.

Speedy: "Hello Beautiful, I'm Speedy."

He took my hand, but I withdrew it. Kid Flash flashed to my side.

KF: "Speedy hey. Thank you for letting us train here."

He smiled, and Speedy laughed and pulled him into a hug. It looked like they were trying to smash each other, but they were smiling and laughing meanwhile.

Speedy: "Everything for an old friend. Especially when you bring such nice company. For an bad girl who is turning good, you look really..."

My temper was growing. He was even more annoying than Kid Flash. I clenched my fists.

J: "Pink?"

Speedy: "Well... Yes, that to. But I was thinking beautiful."

It was going to take a lot of self-control not to punch him in the face. Kid Flash was clearly also affected by this. Why I didn't know.

KF: "So Speedy... You said, we could help you with something"

Speedy smiled to Kid Flash.

KF: "Why so serious? You almost sound like Robin. But you're right. One of this city's more absurd villains are stirring up trouble."

KF: "Most villains are absurd these days."

I looked at him, and he realized what he had said. He looked sorry, but I laid a hand on his shoulder and smiled.

Speedy: "You know how to say it Flashy. His name is Brick. He's a crimelord, and he has a lot of different gangs behind him."

J: "Brick? How creative."

Speedy: "Very. His skin is red and thick as brick. Big guy with white hair. Believe me, you'll know when you see him."

KH: "Were do we find this Brick?"

Speedy: "In his "safe" house. I know from my sources, that most of his gang will be at a illegal car race in the slum."

I looked at Kid Flash. If his gang was at the race, why weren't we?

J: "Why don't we take down his gang at the race?"

KF: "Don't worry we can handle him."

Speedy: "And because he threatened Green Arrow, and he need to learn what happens, when you do that."

KF: "And what does happen?"

Kid Flash wasn't sounding happy, and the serious voice was very different from the real Flash.

Speedy: "I don't know yet. Let's find out."

I took a deep breath. This would be the first time I would be the hero. I was nervous, but it made me more nervous, that Kid Flash was so serious.

Speedy ran over to a red motorcycle. He jumped on and looked back at us.

Speedy: "Don't fall behind Flashy."

He drove off. Kid Flash turned his back to me, and I jumped up. He didn't run, instead he took a deep breath.

KF: "I'm sorry, if Speedy is a little... Special... He's really nice when you get to know him."

I tightened my grip and said:

J: "Don't worry. I know all about special. After all I have been living with you for some days now."

He smiled and tightened his grip. Then he flashed through the streets.
