You might say well there. The end. After waiting for years it looks like Bekah has the man she wants, but this is not the moment that changed my life. Sure I now had to be a chapperone/ third wheel for the dates that were sure to follow this development, but something bigger was in the works that no one... and I mean No one could ever have seen coming....except maybe God.
The tournament was over the next day.... We Won!!!! We had a few minor injuries but nothing serious. I was sore and tired as I got in the van at 11 a.m. Kyle, who hadn't let Bekah out of his sight but wasn't exactly making his feelings known, got in the front seat. Coach had given him a speech about punching random people at tournament where we Christians are supposed to be the examples, but he wasn't really taking it to heart. I had a feeling he would do it again if Jon showed his ugly mug again. Bekah got in beside me. She was better now although confused as to why Kyle wasn't really saying much to her. I'm going to have to have a chat with my stupid cousin. He can't just play with her like this! Just as I was about to text him my outrage, Kyle text me first.
"What's Bekah's number?"
"Why do you want to know?""Just give me it."
"....No.. :p"
"Latoya! I need to talk to her privately and that's kinda hard in the van full of girls!"
"What are your intentions sir?"
"Oh forget it!!!"
"JK it's 207-576-7825"
"thanks"
I sat back and waited to see what was to become of this. Kyle started texting then stopped and looked out the window. Then he started to text again. Finally, Bekah's phone buzzed. She looked at it and got a puzzled look on her face. She showed it to me. "This is Kyle. We need to talk. Later" THAT'S IT!?!?! What a dumb dumb! She text back.
"ok......"
"At the next stop.... alone please."
Bekah gave me a look that was part confused, excited, and scared.
"Sure is something wrong?"
" No just need to clear a few things up."
Now she looked really worried. I could just picture the thoughts running through her mind. "He doesn't like me and just wants to be friends." "He regrets stepping in with Jon." Crap! She was going to be a MESS between now and lunch. I made a plan to make sure I was able to see them when they talked. Sure enough neither Kyle nor Bekah spoke a word. Both just acted nervous. So I put in my headphones and listened to some music.
We finally stopped for lunch on the side of the highway at one of those stops where there are like 7 choices for restaurants. We piled out into the building and split up to order our food. We were given one hour. Bekah and I headed toward the pizza place. As we got close to the line Kyle got our attention and motioned for Bekah to join him. She began walking to him slowly away from everyone else. I tried to get in a position where I could see their lips to try and catch some of the conversation. I began pulling out my wallet, not really paying attention to what I was doing. I handed the girl at the counter some money. I could hear some commotion behind me, but I was too focused on Kyle's face. Gosh, he looked nervous! Is he doing what I think he is doing? Bekah grinned. They turned to face me and Kyle reached over and touched his hand to the small of her back. She turned instantly red and Kyle laughed. I was vaguely aware that someone was behind me. I made eye contact with Bekah, but she was looking wide eyed right past my left shoulder. I still had no clue what was going on till I heard the deep voice say, "I think you dropped this." Little did I know that That voice was going to change my life as I knew it.
