Dylan's P.O.V.
I was wondering where Toya went and was about to get up and check when she came in the doors. Her face was flushed from the exciting game she had played and the triumph of winning. Her braid hung over her shoulder and its color stood out against the black jersey. Red was now my official favorite color for life. I swallowed and briefly had no idea of what to say or do. Me, the movie star, who is supposed to be suave, smooth, and sophisticated was reduced to wracking my brain for a single sentence that made sense. What is wrong with me!?
Toya smiled at me and my stomach lurched. This girl was so different from anyone I had ever known. She was real, herself, and I wouldn't change her for all the movie roles they were offering me in Hollywood. I slid over and she sat beside me. "You did amazing out there tonight!" I told her. She blushed and said, "Thanks, I had a good reason to play my very best. Sorry about landing in your lap." She looked down. I wanted to put her at ease. "Oh I didn't mind it at all; in fact, I was rather hoping it would happen again.
Toya's face jerked up and her eyes were wide. Flirting over text was one thing, but seeing her reaction to my flirting face to face only made me want to tease her all night long. Just then Bekah and Kyle walked up. Apparently hearing the end of our conversation Kyle said, "Not on my watch buddy." He smiled so I hoped he was mostly kidding. Some other girls kept trying to get my attention, but there was no way that was going to happen when I was so utterly captivated by the charming young woman sitting beside me.
Toya's P.O.V.
I sat beside Dylan and thought of how lucky I was. Then I began to wonder if this was all just some grand dream and I was about to wake up in the van still traveling back from the volleyball tournament. I secretly pinched myself just to be sure. Ouch! Ok, this is officially real. The basketball game went well, and we cheered on the team. At half time Dylan and Kyle went to get snacks and drinks for us all while I looked at Bekah's bracelet. "Kyle does have good taste in picking jewelry," I murmured. Bekah grinned and told me how he gave it to her. I felt happy for her, but I had to wonder could Dylan be the one I've waited for like Kyle is who Bekah waited for. That one person who just gets me? Or was I rushing things? Life is so complicated.
The boys came back and decided to be kind enough to share the massive amounts of food they got with us girls. Kyle said something to Bekah about me so I threw a french fry that hit him square in the face. The look he gave me promised of revenge that would follow after the game. The Swordsmen won, giving us a winning evening. People started leaving and I got up and explained to Dylan that I had to do a job. He got up and said, "I will help you get it done." I checked the chart to see what I had.... vacuuming the hallways. I grabbed a vacuum and began. A few minutes later Dylan had charmed the other vacuum from Alana and joined me. "I'll race ya!" he said with that heart melting grin. I laughed as he took off and followed him. We were laughing and having so much fun. I ended up tangled in the cords and Dylan came to rescue me. "Oh fair maiden, may I assist you?" Dylan even bowed as he said this in a gallant fashion. "Yes Please." He then proceeded to attempt to unwrap me. When I was just about free, Dylan swooped me into his arms and held me. We just stood there, him holding me, and me with my arms around his neck, like in some old romantic movie. I never wanted for the moment to end.
"Do you want me to put you down?" Dylan asked. It took me a moment to find my voice but I answered, "No". He smiled and said "I hoped you'd say that." He leaned in close and brushed his lips against mine in the softest and sweetest in the history of first kisses. And of course that's when my cousin decided to show up.
"What's going on over here?" Kyle demanded after taking in the scene. Thankfully he hadn't seen the kiss. As smoothly as could be Dylan said, "Oh she fell down and got tangled up, but I've got this." Kyle stood there till Dylan had put me down and then said, "Come on we are playing the circle game and it's getting good." We wrapped up the vacuum cords and then headed in the gym while I explained what the circle game was.
