Chapter 14: Sudden Changes

I've been here for a month and a few days. But I've enjoyed it. After Hanna asked me a bunch questions about Levi and mine's 'sleepover' we ate breakfast and took a walk.

We were currently sitting on a wooden bench watching all the cadets train. Levi was teaching them sparing techniques. Hanna thought it was funny how he was shorter than most of them. Yet he was in charge.

All the cadets saw him as some emotionless captain who is strict and likes everything spotless. But, when you are alone with him, he really is sweet. Commander Erwin randomly showed up out of nowhere. His posture seemed different and he had a look of guilt.

Levi's POV

"Eren, get off Jean's back. He isn't a horse." I scolded.

I saw as Erwin passed all of us training and walked over to Nana and her daughter. He stopped in front of them.
He got down on one knee and saluted.

A moment passed.

Nana's hand flew to her mouth and her eyes widened. Another moment passed and She along with her daughter were in tears. Erwin offered a hug and Nana accepted.

The cadets had stopped what they were doing and viewed every detail as I did. Erwin then left them and started making his way here, his head hung down. He stopped in his tracks, catching everyone's attention.

He once again saluted with perfect posture. "Last night, the King and the Queen were assassinated." He said.

Thoughts went threw my head. How could this have happened? I looked over to Nana. She was embracing Hanna and they were both crying their eyes out. Her parents were her only family, besides Hanna and the baby.

All her life has been was pain.

Nana's POV

They're dead. I will never see them again. I know I was with them for only about two weeks. But, I mean, they are my parents. And I still loved them. Even if it was a short amount of time.

I wrapped Hanna in my arms and she was crying too. Even worse than me. Her sobs continued and mine got worse.

"Promise me you won't forget Haleigh!" I cried.

"I promise."

I went to my room and I've been here for hours. Hanna left to get us some food a few minutes ago. I refused all visitors and I honestly don't even care at the moment. Eren tried to come in three times in the past hour, and everybody else was random. The only person who didn't try was Levi. He respects my need to be alone.

I appreciate that.

Hanna walked in with a tray that held two plates and two bowls. On the plate was bread, and in the bowl was soup.
"Mikasa helped me get our lunch, mom."

She set the tray down on the side table. She then began to set out the silverware. "Here, sweetheart. I'll get it." I told her. She moved aside and I rearranged the spoons. There was a knock at the door. Hanna walked over and opened it.

"Sorry to interrupt, princess, but Commander Erwin needs you in his office." Jean said.

Hanna hugged him as I walked past them both. I wiped away my tears an put on a brave face. I put a hand on my stomach. My baby will never meet its grandparents.

As I was walking my way to Commander Erwin's office, a certain thought came to my mind.

Who was in charge now?

I'm not stupid, I mean. I'm the crown princess by blood. But, aren't I too young to rule? It's a huge responsibility. And I have Hanna and the baby to take care of.

I was so lost in my thoughts I almost passed his office. I took a slow step back and opened the door. I peaked in with just my head.

"Princess, I've been expecting you. Please sit down. We have things to discuss." Erwin said.

I closed the door and sat down. My first notice was how uncomfortable
This chair was. My back against the wood felt awful.

"Princess?"

"Oh, sorry."

I began to pay attention. This apparently was important. "What did you need, Erw- Commander!" I corrected myself.

He sighed. "The loss of the King and Queen is a tragic thing. We have several people trying to find culprits. The reason I called you here is because
Your are next in line. So you must return to the castle to be crowned Queen." He explained.

I froze, "Me," I pointed to myself, "A Queen?"

"Yes."

"I thought I was too young?"

He leaned back in his chair, "You are the only heir, so it's only natural that you become Queen."

I didn't know what to think. I don't know the first thing about ruling.
"I understand and all, but I'm not re-"

"You are more than ready."

I sat down on the bed. Hanna was combing my hair. She liked to fix my hair, and I let her. "Your hair is so soft mom." She said.

"Thank you sweetheart. I'll brush your hair next, alright?"

"Sounds good to me."

Tomorrow morning Hanna and I have to return to the castle. I don't really want to though. I like it here at HQ. I have friends and I'm not escorted places. But tomorrow will change. It will be back on the castle life and I'll be crowned Queen.

After Hanna finished brushing my hair. I began to brush hers. I was able to get out all of the knots.

"Mom?" Hana said.

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"Will we still be able to see our friends after we return to the castle?" She asked. I honestly didn't know how to answer her question. I really was unsure wether we will or not.

"I don't know." I told her putting her hair into a braid. I hope we can still see everybody. Especially Eren, I do owe him my life after all. And well, Levi. He is my friend too I guess. We get along easy. And he is quite attractive. 'Stop thinking like that!' I mentally told myself.

Levi is a great guy, and Hanna seems to 'approve' of him. I hope there is no law against the monarch, perhaps, seeing people. Not that I actually like Levi or anything. It's just a random thought. Besides, they would never the future queen to be with the lance corporal.

Well, I actually don't know that. A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts. I let go of Hanna's hair and it fell like streams water on her back. The person at the door knocked again, "Yes?" I said as I opened the door. It was none other than Levi.

"Oh, hello corporal!" I greeted.

He walked in and opened my dresser. "What are you doing?" I asked him, slightly annoyed.

"We're leaving, now." He said in a monotone like always.

"Why?" I asked.

He threw Hanna and I cloths, "Change into these, fast." He said, "We need to go, so hurry."
