It had been 2 years since Ricky and I became a couple. Nothing had happened. We both just got on with our day-to-day life routines. Actually, I just told a lie. We bought an apartment together. My mom had my dogs until the house was ready for them to move back in with me. Then it was just Ricky and I in our cosy new home. Moving in together wasn't stressful at all. I thought that was a sign, that our relationship and future wouldn't be stressful, either. That it would all be smooth running from there onwards. We hadn't talked about anything crucial for our future like children, engagement or marriage. Just what we wanted our new living room to be painted with. We were choosing between French Lilac or Magnolia. Two months later,we were still torn between the two colours. Today we were enjoying our break in the studio and Ricky randomly brought the living room up. "I think French Lilac, it's up to you, too though. What do you prefer?" He asked, understandingly.
"I was thinking the same thing. I want French Lilac, too. I'm gonna take the rest of the day off with you and we're going to go get the paint now. Is that alright?" I asked Ricky excitedly.
"Sounds like a plan!" He said as he hauled himself up off the step and rubbed his hands together. I grabbed my car keys with one hand and grabbed Ricky's hand with the other. We walked together downstairs to the car park and Ricky, as the gentleman he is, opened the passengers door for me. "Today I'm going to drive. You sit back and relax, you deserve it." Ricky smiled and kissed me on the forehead. What a relief. I was mentally and physically exhausted. But not quite exhausted enough not to paint. I buckled my seatbelt up as Ricky sped off out of the underground car park. After picking up the paint and driving home, I walked out of the bathroom while Ricky was stirring up the paint and gave him a nervous smile.
"Do you mind sitting down? I have some good news." I asked Ricky as I patted the seat. He came over, sat down and put his arm around me.
"What is it?" He excitedly exclaimed.
"Well..... I'm... You're.... We're..... "
"Spit out!" Ricky laughed.
"Having a baby." I blurted out as quickly as possible with my eyes squinted shut. Silence. Nothing. I opened an eye. Ricky's face had dropped. Oh, no. I didn't think his reaction would be that, like disappointed.
"I don't know if we are ready. Like, what about space, food, toys, diapers?" he said, counting the number of things on his shaking fingers.
"Seriously, Ricky?! You're playing that game? We have a spare bedroom, I'm a worldwide popstar and you're basically a famous dancer for me! And you're worried about the cost of food? You know, it's not the financial issues I need to worry about, maybe it's you." I stormed off in a rage to our newly decorated bedroom. I jumped on the bed and quietly started sobbing. What had happened? Things just went from bad to worse. I looked down at my stomach, noticing the small bump. A tear rolled off of my face onto it as I started rubbing it. I pulled myself off of the bed and walked over to the spare bedroom, thinking about what colour I would paint it for my baby and how excited my dogs would be when my baby's finally born. Then I remembered something. I needed to make an appointment at the surgery to see how far in I am. I walked into the living room to collect my phone whilst disturbing Ricky's panicked whispers to himself. I gave him an angry glance as I walked out.
"Hello, this is the L.A Private Surgery. Who is this?" an almost robotic voice answered the phone.
"Hi, Linda! It's Ariana, I hope you're well, is it alright if I speak to my doctor please?"
"Hi, Ariana! I'm doing fine thankyou, sure, he's just here next to me now!"
"Hi Ariana, what is it you need an appointment for?" My kind doctor questioned.
"Hiiii Sam, I need an appointment because I found out a week ago that I was pregnant." I whispered the word 'pregnant' very quietly, I didn't want anyone else to know.
"Oh really! Congratulations, Ari! Sure, I have a free fifteen minute appointment at 4:30 or is that too short notice?"
"No, no that's amazing thankyou, I might be like five minutes late - is that okay?"
"Yeah that's fine, see you soon!" Before I got the chance to reply, Sam had hung up. My appointment was about a fifteen minute drive away and it was 4:20. At least I prepared my doctor for the five minute lateness!
"Ricky, I'm going to the doctors now to find out more about the pregnancy. I would invite you but you know..." I grabbed my car keys from the hook beside the front door and slammed it on my way out. I ran as fast as I could into the surgery with my mini bump, signed in at the reception and knocked on Sam's door.
"Who is it?" a booming voice yelled.
"Ari! Let me in! " I laughed as Sam unlocked the door. He greeted me with a warming hug and told me to lie down on the bed. He did some tests and that, and then I was able to sit back up.
"Ari, you're already four months in." Sam gently said.
"Oh wow! I'm so excited." I exclaimed. As I left the surgery and climbed into my car, I felt a vibrate. Someone was calling. Ricky. "What?" I said with a sigh.
"Are you actually going through with this? I don't think you're ready. And neither am I. Maybe you should do what's for the best. I can't deal with a screaming baby all night long." Ricky ignorantly and abruptly stated.
"Excuse me? You really need to know that you can't play with my mind, put words in my mouth and tell me what I am and what I'm not ready for!" I yelled and squeezed my seat belt as I hung up. My stomach started turning and I felt really sick, this stress isn't good for the baby.
