Chapter 24
Since Angel knew the sex of the baby she set up camp in the extra spare bedroom. She claimed it work station central or more simply, her sew room. Angel’s new project was a satin comforter for the baby’s crib. Her comforters were exquisite and she only made them for a select few. This really worked out great because it gave Angelic two hours of alone time each day to search while Trey was at work.
It’s not that she never frequented the office; she just didn’t want Angel to ask any questions and not be able to tell her the truth. It was already down to the last two weeks in March and she had been plenty busy as she daily snooped around his office. Angelic searched cabinets, folders, his desk, even computer files; there wasn’t a drop of evidence anywhere. However, the morning of April Fools Day was an eye opener; one that she couldn’t ignore or make up an excuse for.
Trey had gotten a late start that day and was in bit of a rush for a flight. After he left she decided to give the office one last look around—if it had been a repeat of the previous days she would have moved on and just let it go. Angelic discovered that he had been in his office before he left because when she bumped into the keyboard, the computer screen flashed on.
It wasn’t the screen, but rather a white piece of paper that she saw under the desk that caught her attention. She carefully stooped down to pick it up. It was a bank statement that was addressed to Trey. It listed stocks, bonds, and other things, but the one thing that stood out the most, was the net value of assets. Angelic’s mouth dropped open. This paper indicated that Trey was worth $50 million dollars.
“No, no, no, no, no, this has to be a mistake,” she said to herself. She looked at the address again. It was addressed to Trey, but the address was a P.O. Box in New York.
“New York?” she asked herself. 'Was this the reason Trey was keeping secrets? And, why is my husband loaded and I don’t know anything about it?' she thought.
These thoughts swirled around in her head as she sat down. The back of the desk chair faced the screen. When she swiveled around shock number two smacked her right in the face. The screen was on the web site of “Bank of New York” and in bold print was the name, Trey Moretti.
“What the hell?” Angelic stated as she scrolled down the page. This account indicated that it contained $500,000. She saw a repeated pattern of bills being paid, none that she recognized. However, multiple payments to an Amanda Thornton, was a different issue. Scrolling through the electronic statement, it showed this Amanda person received checks as far back as nine months ago.
They were monthly checks in the amount of $20,000. That was no chump change and it surely was far more than the meager and pathetic $2,500 that he gave her monthly for household goods and miscellaneous items for her.
Angelic scrolled back to current transactions. “Wait a minute, a round trip ticket for New York purchased yesterday. Son of a bitch – he’s going to New York! He told me he was going to Maine. You lying son of a bitch!” Angelic yelled, as she picked up and threw Trey’s stress ball across the room. It was a good thing that the house was noise insulated well because there was no way that Angel should not have heard her.
“You love me, huh? Yeah you love me so much that our whole marriage has been one big fucking charade!” she said as she tried to fight off tears. She went to wipe her eyes and saw a white note pad. It still had the indentation print edged into it. She got a pencil out of the desk and rubbed it over the words—it read, “Marriot Hotel, NY – Strayborn Ave.”
