Chapter Seventeen
"Knock, knock," Chloe said as she entered Carrie's apartment.
"Hey," Carrie put her magazine down and smiled at her friend.
"Just wanted to see you were okay after everything that happened. Sorry I haven't been around sooner, it's been a bit of a manic week."
"I'm fine," Carrie smiled as she noticed the two lattes Chloe held. "Is one of those for me?"
Chloe handed her one and sat down next to her.
"I uh... I also wanted to apologise for being a little cool with you recently." Chloe said.
"No need, it's totally understandable."
"Thank you but it wasn't fair. I mean I dumped Clark so I have no right to be mad but... well I guess the truth is I've always been envious of your relationship with Clark."
"Envious of me?" she sounded surprised.
"Clark leans on you in a way he doesn't with me, even after I knew his secret. You just... get him, I guess and a part of me always felt like he was just settling for me."
"I'd be lying if I said it wasn't weird for me when I found out that you and Ollie got together so believe me, I understand."
"At least you and Clark had the guts to tell me in person. I was too much of a coward."
Carrie put her arms around the younger girl and hugged her tightly.
"Fighting over boys is so not worth it," Carrie assured her.
"Amen." Chloe sat back and smiled. "So, are you really super-powered now?"
"No, well not exactly."
"What does that mean?"
"It means I'm pretty strong but nowhere near as strong as Clark. I'm slightly invulnerable and I heal quickly."
"But no other powers?"
"No. At least not yet."
"Will they come over time, like Clark's did?" Chloe asked.
"I don't know. Clark was born this way so his powers developed as he grew. I'm already grown so maybe they'll come all at once or maybe this is it and I'm some kind of human/Kryptonian hybrid."
"Okay, that's freaky."
"Tell me about it," Carrie rolled her eyes. "Truthfully though. I'm kinda hoping this is it. I really don't want to change too much."
"I understand, but it might be nice for Clark to have someone like him."
"Well there's nothing I can do about it so I'll just have to wait and see I guess. By the way, Clark told me what you did and I'm impressed with how you navigated the Watchtower computers."
"Well, the computer's designer does tend to think like me," Chloe grinned. "Actually I was going to ask you about that. I know I'm away at college right now but I want to help you guys with this crime fighting. I was thinking I might transfer to Met U and maybe you could train me to use Watchtower. It would give you the occasional night off, which might come in handy now you're dating Clark."
Chloe had to admit that was a tempting idea.
"Have you spoken to Oliver about this?"
"Yeah, he thinks it's a great idea."
"Well, I know that if I refuse you'll just find another, potentially more dangerous way to help so why not." Carrie grinned.
"Great!" Chloe beamed.
