A Fight For Me

My phone buzzed non stop ever since Colin and I reconciled. He's been asking me the little things like who was my first school crush and what I like to do for fun. I'm gaining respect for him everyday. Baby steps, that's what it will take to form a strong friendship again.

"Honey, Liam is home. He's been asking about you non stop ever since he got settled in." Mom came into the kitchen with a basket of laundry on her hip.

"Okay." I said, returning my focus back to my phone. Colin was cracking me up with his silly questions.

"What's so funny? Just the other day, it was killing you to see Liam and now I tell you he's home and you tell me 'okay'?"

"Nothing." I decided to not tell her about Colin yet. She would probably go nuts and throw a tantrum.

"Don't you dare lie to me Melody." She slammed the basket down on the table, some of the clothes flying out.

"Fine. It's Colin." I gave in or else she would of called Dad in and this would be another 'intervention'.

"I can't believe it." Mom shook her head.

"Why would you do this? You're only hurting yourself, Mel." She continued on. I sat back and rolled my eyes.

"MELODY EVA GRACE!" She screamed which startled dad who came running into the kitchen.

"What's going on here?" He asked, but in a very demanding voice.

"Melody is in contact with Colin." Mom said.

"That's not good Mel, why?" Dad asked, of course taking mom's side.

"Because he's fine. He was in treatment for weeks. We even saw each other yesterday. He just wants to be friends." I said as calmly as I could.

"I will be speaking to his parents." Mom made it very clear she would not be putting up with any nonsense.

"Fine." I stood up from the table, shoving the chair underneath it.

"Do not slam things because you're angry. I did not raise you this way." Mom yelled.

"Chill. I'm going to Colin's house, we're going to go downtown to go shopping. Call me if you need me." I said. I started walking to the door and let out a deep breath. I felt like such a rebel for doing that but I know Colin, I can trust them. I understand how my parents feel. He abused me. They just want what is best for me but if they want that, they need to trust me.

"You should really stop by Liam's at some point today." Was all mom said before I walked out the door.

I sighed and texted Colin for a rain check. He actually understood and said maybe later. I didn't see that going all that smooth but I think rehab changed him.

I decided I would just surprise Liam. Surprises were better. I rode my bike to his house this time and set the bike down on the front lawn. I hopped up the steps and took in a deep breath before knocking. But before I could even do so, the door opened. It was Liam. He swung open the doors and immediately ran into my arms.

"I love you Melody." Was the first thing he said. I felt my body tingle as he said those words. It was like an electric shock that went through my body. I think that feeling is love.

"I love you too Liam." I whispered and hugged him tight.

We broke away from the embrace and smiled at each other.

"Come in, I want to show you something." He took my hand into his and we walked into the house pass his grandparents.

We walked into his room then, he shut the door quietly.

"Are you allowed to...?" I pointed to the door.

"Yes, I'm fine. I have you now. You're all I've ever needed." He said and my insides melted a little. I felt so special in that moment.

"Come, sit." He patted the spot on his bed next to him.

It was a like a flashback of all the events that have led me to this point flooded to my brain. I suddenly felt very dizzy as every moment whirled past me. I've been a complete ignorant teenager to my parents and loved ones all because I had to fight against them with everything. I felt like I had to take control for once which is sort of true but I could of been nicer about it.

I felt the ground below me as I crashed onto it. It was cold, just like my body now. I laid there for what felt like a lifetime. Never thought I would pass out due to stress but here I am, passed out on Liam's bedroom floor like an idiot.

I felt Liam shake me so I knew I wasn't out too long. It took me a minute to open my eyes and when I did, Liam was leaning over me crying. I immediately sat up then and cradled him into my arms.

"Don't cry. I'm okay." I whispered, rubbing his back.

"I'm sorry. I was so scared. First me and then you. I didn't know what to think. Are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm fine." I gently pushed him aside and went to stand but had to hold onto the bed for support.

"No, you're not. Lay down on my bed." He suggested. I felt my stomach rise to my throat and instantly felt sick. I never realized how close I was getting to Liam. I never realized that I was being a little hoe who only cared about her boy toys and not her family.

"Um.. okay." My voice was shaky as I sat down on the bed.

"You can lay down, it's okay." He chuckled.

I slowly laid down and relaxed as my head hit his pillow. Everything has happened so quickly. I fell in love with the boy next door. Liam sat up against the headboard next to me, softly drawing circles on my arm. Just as I drifted off to sleep, my phone vibrated, scaring the daylights out of me.

"Leave it to me." He held out his hand and I handed him the phone, not thinking about who it could be.

"Colin?" His voice was rough as he asked. I gulped and shut my eyes letting a tear fall.

"Why is he texting you?" Liam asked. I sat up and took the phone from his hands.

"It's nothing." I whispered, lying back down.

"What does he want with you?" Liam asked very carefully.

"I found him roaming the streets yesterday. We made up." I spoke, as I looked up at the ceiling.

"And?" He knew there was more.

I rolled over on my side and propped myself up on my left arm.

"I love you Liam. He just needs a friend right now." I said.

"Yeah, right now. And next week you'll be on your couch, 'watching Netflix' and he'll lean in and kiss you and you'll kiss him back because you're like that. You give in." He said, his words stinging me.

"What is that suppose to mean?" I asked, quietly, flopping back onto my back.

"Do you really love me Melody? Or do you just feel bad because I almost died?" He asked, turning to face me.

"I..I.." I couldn't finish my sentence as the words were stuck from complete shock with his tone with me.

"Liam Aiden Gates. I fell in love with you the day I met you. That day I saw the moving truck in your driveway, I was instantly pulled. There's something about you that drags me in and I think it's a little something called love." I sat up and moved closer to him.

"I love you for you. I love that you deeply care for and respect your grandparents. I love listening to your fingers hit the keys on your piano. I absolutely love when I'm around you. It feels as if we are in our own little world." I took his hands into mine and looked into his beautiful eyes.

"You're so worth it. The thought of losing you killed me inside. I don't think I would of found happiness again if you didn't make it." I whispered.

And with that being said, he cupped my face with his hands and kissed me slowly and softly onto my lips. He threw my phone to the side and I couldn't help but notice the message from Colin as we pulled apart:

I think I love you
