The boy straightened himself up, giving me a lopsided grin. He glanced towards the sink he'd just emptied his stomach into, seeming embarrassed for just a second. I realized I still hadn't said anything.
"Uh, hi. Sorry, I was just-"
I was cut off as he leaned towards the sink again, holding a hand up to me. He closed his eyes for a few moments, then nodded to himself.
He looked at me again, "Sorry. I'm Two-Bit."
"Two-Bit?"
He grinned despite his obviously uneasy stomach, "That's right."
Sodapop, Ponyboy, Two-Bit. What the hell were they putting in the water around here?
"I'm Victoria," I sighed, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," He tilted his head, then seemed to remember vomiting, "Oh, right. Yeah, just had a few too many."
I remembered it was only nine o'clock, and I wondered what time he'd started drinking. About then, the doors swung open behind me, just barely missing hitting me across the back. I stumbled forward, but when I turned around my throat closed up.
"Alright, Two-Bit, I found you some water," Dallas muttered, looking like he was close to collapsing himself. He was holding a beer bottle in one hand and a water bottle in the other. "Damn you for thinking sink water's bad for you."
"It is," Two-Bit said defensively.
"You just nearly finished a fifth of whiskey to yourself, what harm could sink water do?"
I cleared my throat. Dallas jumped about a foot in the air, and I realized he must have been pretty drunk to have not noticed me until then. He snapped his head towards me, and instantly narrowed his eyes. When he realized who he was looking at, I swear I saw his mouth drop open for half a second.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Hey," Two-Bit groaned, "Leave her alone, Dallas. That's Victoria, she's my friend."
We both looked at Two-Bit for a few moments, then Dallas turned his stare back on me.
"Is that right?"
"No," I shook my head, "I've only just met him."
"If you've known Two-Bit for a minute, you've known him your whole life," Dallas smiled, walking over to hand him the water bottle, "So, you never answered my question."
"Uh, can we talk somewhere else?"
Dallas narrowed his eyes, his face hardening, "No, I don't think so."
I motioned towards Two-Bit, not speaking, but Dallas' face only got less amused.
"Two-Bit's not going to remember any of this. What do you want?"
I slowly made my way across the floor to him, standing as close as I could get without fully touching him. Dallas was watching me, his eyes constantly alert. I pulled the medal out of my pocket, holding it out in the few inches between us. His eyes widened.
"Holy shit," He snatched it up, "You had that?"
"Well, yeah. Don't you remember handing it to me?"
He shook his head, dumbfounded, "Hell no. God, I beat the hell out of some boy this morning thinking he lifted it off me last night."
I would never get over how casual they all were about punching each other in the face.
