Around midnight, the owner of the Dingo emerged from the kitchen holding a bat and began shouting at everyone to get out. He even used the classic "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here". I wondered briefly if the bat was necessary but, judging from the looks he was giving a few of the rougher greasers, he must have had to use it before. Everyone grumbled for a second before we all began to clear out towards the exits.Angela came to walk beside me, "You okay?"
"Yeah, fine," I shrugged, but I was watching the back of Dallas' head, "Time to head home?"
"Not for me," She smirked, "Bryon's down the road and someone said he's been asking about me, so I'm going to meet him. Tim can probably drop you off though, okay?"
"Sure," I agreed, waving at her as she hurried down the sidewalks towards the rest of the ribbon.
I was trying to find Tim in the crowd when I felt a presence beside me. And not the kind of presence that can be ignored. I glanced at him before rolling my eyes.
"What do you want, Dallas?"
"Where are you off to?" He gave me the signature smirk, "Want to see the rest of The Ribbon while you're here?"
"I'm trying to find Tim," I snapped, "To get a ride home."
"I can take you home."
"Oh, can you?" I turned slightly to face him, "Are you sure you won't just disappear with no explanation?"
He tilted his head, "Is that what you're mad about? That I left the next morning?"
"It was a shitty thing to do."
"Doll, I was only-"
"Listen," I pushed him away slightly, "Don't call me doll, alright?"
"Hey," Someone called.
I'd never been so glad to hear Tim's voice. I looked over to see him and Curly standing a few feet away, watching us. Curly, for once, didn't seem to look amused.
"What's the problem?" Tim asked.
Dallas started lighting a cigarette, "Just asking if Victoria needed a ride home."
"You need a ride, Vic?" Tim nodded towards me, "Come on, I'll drop you off."
I started to walk over to him, but Dallas caught my hand, making me pause. I turned my head, frowning at his casual expression.
"Come with me," He said, "Sorry about leaving, okay? I didn't know it would be a big deal."
"I'm not some one night stand, Winston," I pulled my hand away from him, "You made me feel like some corner whore."
"I know, I know," He took my hand again, "That's just what I'm used to. Listen, come on, ride around with me for a while. I don't feel like being alone tonight. I'll drop you home right after, I promise."
There was something flashing behind those cold eyes of his, and not a passion or a desire like he usually had when he looked at me. This time his eyes were almost pleading me to stay with him, something his pride kept his mouth from doing. "I don't feel like being alone tonight" sounded less like an invitation and more like a cry for help. And that stupid, good heart of mine stuttered a bit at the thought of Dallas Winston, the boy with no heart, crying out for help.
I hesitated, but eventually looked at Tim again, "I'll see you at home, okay?"
Curly frowned, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, it's okay," I assured him as Dallas began to lead me away from them, "I'll be home soon."
"Watch yourself, Dallas," Tim called out in a hard voice, "I've got eyes around this town."
