Chapter Five
Three months later
The next three months carried on like nothing happened.
Sometimes it felt like nothing did. Yuu never mentioned his night of escape into the town, and after a few sleepless nights of thinking about the blonde and the dancing, it slipped away into the back of his mind and became less important than other events in his life.
Late summer turned to autumn, and autumn turned to winter. The air changed from gentle breezes to harsh whips of air. The lovely autumn leaves fell to the ground and littered the sidewalks, soon to be covered by snowfall.
Yuu was awakened by the sound of his maid, Shiori-san, calling him softly out of his dreamland state. She sounded timid, like she was terrified of disturbing the prince out of his slumber, and she goddamn should be, because Yuu was in no mood to be up at whatever hour this was.
It could've been one-thirty in the afternoon, for all he cared. He was still going to sleep longer. When you're asleep, no one is pestering you, and the greatest thing is you don't have to worry about anything. You don't have to think.
Unfortunately, his brain had other plans, and decided to do just that, filling his thoughts with blonde curls and cerulean eyes.
Mika.
This happened only occasionally. Yuu would just be going about his day when flashes of the stranger from three months ago would intrude his thoughts and he'd forget about everything else for a hot minute. It was quite inconvenient for the most part, but this time it actually turned out to be helpful.
Suddenly, he was completely awake. The memories of three months ago flooded his mind once again, casting shadows of spinning and dipping as he remembered their dance. Yuu's eyes shot open, landing on Shiori-san. She was looming over his bedside timidly, hands clasped behind her back.
"Ah, Yuichiro-sama, you're awake! Thank goodness," She laughed softly. "You have classes at the Academy today, and you're a tad late, I'm afraid."
Yuu's eyes flickered to the grandfather clock. The time was approaching eight in the morning, and he had to be at the Academy for first lesson by eight thirty. Yuu toppled out of bed, practically knocking over poor Shiori-san in the process. The poor old lady, with her frail heart, wasn't fit to care for such a rambunctious teenager like Yuu.
Yuu bolted into his closet, rifling through his impressive selection of school-issued uniforms. He hated wearing such stuffy clothing, as they made him feel like a doll, but there was no time to voice his complaints.
He threw off his pajamas and changed into the black trousers, matching button-up blazer with green detailing and gold buttons, and the white belt. To finish, he yanked on the knee-high black boots that were part of the required uniform.
He didn't even bother messing with his bedhead because he knew that was an untamable beast that not even the highest-ranked members of the Japanese Imperial Army could tame. He grabbed the book he was reading off his bedroom table and was off.
He rushed down the hall and down the spiral staircase, fast-walking into the kitchen. The royal cooks had already prepared a feast-like breakfast for him. Hotcakes stacked high on his plate, alongside freshly-squeezed juice, from fresh oranges directly imported from Florida.
This was his favorite thing about being extremely rich: all the delectable and amazing food he could ask for and more. Yuu immediately drowned his pancakes in syrup and dug in, shoveling bite after bite and not planning on stopping until he felt his stomach would burst.
