Yuu's tie wouldn't lie straight on his chest, and it was really annoying him.

He kept yanking at the strip of fabric, resulting in pulling it too tight and having to loosen it again. This process repeated itself three times until Yuu got fed up with himself and allowed his tie to be crooked.

"Are you nervous, Yuichiro-sama?" Kagome-san, his personal chauffeur, asked from his left.

"No, why would you say that?" Yuu laughed anxiously.

"You've been messing with your necktie for ten minutes now," Kagome-san said with an amused smile playing on his lips. Yuu bit his bottom lip and stared at his lap. The necklace box rested on top of his legs, feeling like a hundred kilogram weight pushing him down.

"Maybe a little bit," He admitted, keeping his voice quiet. This feeling, his erratic breathing falling in sync with his rapid heartbeat, it didn't feel natural. Yuu was used to being around Shinoa; used to the intimacy and the unspoken connection. Now it just felt like something new, and he didn't like it.

Shinoa's home, a grandiose castle, rested on the eastern border of Drelacia and Bruxberg, the kingdom of the Hiragi ancestry. From his own castle, the drive took a little over a half hour. As she lived on the border, her family had the option to send her to a school in either kingdom. Shinoa, knowing Yuu went to the Drelacia Royal Academy, chose the same one to get close to him. Looking back on it, he felt flattered at the time but now it left a strange aftertaste in his mouth.

The entire ride consisted of Yuu bouncing nervously whenever they hit a hole in the uneven roads and allowing silent anticipation to cloud his thoughts. By the time they arrived, the thirty minutes slipped away, turning into a distant memory. Kagome-san opened Yuu's door for him and he took a shaky step out of the car, clutching the box in his hands like his life depended on it. "Thank you," he thanked his driver, feeling bad that he would have to drive all the way back and then make a second trip to pick him up. He nodded and got back in the car, driving away to leave Yuu to enter the castle.

Another girl from Yuu's school was walking in at the same time as him, and they made idle chatter as they ascended the stone steps and down the huge driveway. She was dressed just as nicely as Yuu was. When Yuu complimented her on her appearance, opening the door for her, she flushed pink with embarrassment.

They were met with a blast of warm air, causing goosebumps to form on the nape of Yuu's neck. A stern-looking castle made an ushering movement to the left, and they moved through a sitting room and a hallway to get to the ballroom, which was bustling with commotion.

The sight nearly threw Yuu off his feet. It was certainly not what he expected from such a classically trained and polite girl like Shinoa.

The ballroom was nearly pitch-black, save for the few pink strobe lights coming down from the light bulbs, filtering the world in pinks and purples. In the center was the marble dancefloor, but instead of slow-dancing adults, kids - some he recognized, some faces unfamiliar - danced more recklessly, twirling and jumping around, swishing their bodies back and forth, the girls' hair flying in all directions. The song playing was not classical, instead a steady beat; jazzy saxophones and loud trumpets filled the venue. To the left was a food buffet, complete with a very large white and purple cake, a chocolate fountain, various fruits, and other snacks. Mouth agape, he stood motionless in the opening whereas the other girl quickly fell in step with the other dancers.
