"I just don't understand why she can't socialize with people?" I hear my mother whisper harshly to my brother.
"She's getting used to it, it's not her fault that you dragged her away from all her old friends." He said defensively. This is why I liked my brother, he defended me when all my mom could do was tell me how awful of a person I was. They both thought that I was asleep still but I immediately stood up and walk out the back door before I heard any other truths come out of her mouth. I plugged in my earbuds and walked to the park. I sat down at one of the picnic tables that the city provided and waited. I didn't know what I was waiting for but something told me that I should just sit there and wait.
About 45 minutes later the sun started to disappear from the sky.
'It's only 2 in the afternoon?' I told myself. I then felt the first drop land on my forehead. About a minute later, the clouds broke open and I was stuck in the middle of a thunderstorm. I should have just ran home but I didn't want to leave just yet.
"Are you insane?!" I hear Michael yelling at me. "What are you doing out in the pouring rain?" He yells out to me again.
"I'm sorry, I just felt like staying out here, it's cool to watch the rain." I say trying to cover the fact that my mother was insane and didn't actually want me around.
He stopped and then hesitated before speaking, "you need to get out of the rain, you're going to catch pneumonia or something" he said sounding quite concerned about my well being.
"Thanks but I'm fine, the rain will end soon enough." I say calmly over the loud pinging noise that filled the air around me.
"No you aren't. Just come with me, you can come over to my house and wait for the storm to end." I slowly got up from my seat. I was actually thankful for his offer and we head for the direction of his house. Once we got inside, I took my wet shoes off and sent him an apologetic look. He just waved his hand telling me it was fine. His mom walked over the mud room and gave him a curious look.
"Mom, this is Carly, I invited her over for dinner." He said like it was no big deal.
"Hello, nice to meet you dear. Little Mikey over here never brings girls around for me to properly meet." She says and winks at me. I instantly start blushing, my face turning a bright shade of pink.
"Oh my gosh Mom, stop!" He whined; she just started laughing and walked away.
"That doesn't actually happen!" He say so quickly that I almost don't hear him. He was almost and red as I was but I think that I still won for being 'Most Embarrassed'. He led the way up to his room and I looked at how neat everything was.
"Not every teenage boy lives in a pig-stye, you know?" He says sassily. He had a Green Day poster and a Foo- Fighters poster stuck to the wall with masking tape.
"I like your room." I offered because the silence was a little nerve racking.
"Oh um thanks, I like to decorate it but my moms not a big fan of the idea of have things hanging on the walls." He explains to me. His room smelled like cologne and laundry detergent. He grabbed his laptop and sat down on his bed; he then patted the seat for me to sit down.
