Patrick's POV:
I had spent all day in that bush. Just waiting until school was let out for the day. It was sort of difficult considering Mr. Jenkins, our next door naighbor, almost caught me. Yet, finally, it was 3:05 pm and classes had been let out.
I stood up and walked over to the front doorstep. I walked inside and saw Pete, I smiled and waved. "Hey Pete!" I said, running over to give him a hug. Pete looked down at the top of my head and beamed. "Why are you in such a happy mood?" He asked.
I shrugged. "Dunno. I just thought I'd let you know, my mom's in prison!" I exclaimed, Pete smiled. "That's great Patrick! I'm so happy for you. How about we go get some icecream?" He offered, I nodded and re-adjusted my fedora.
"Great, I'll be right back." He told me, as he began to walk off to his room. I walked over to the sofa and sat down. All the stress about my mom was no longer flooding my mind with a chaos tornado, she was gone, for now at least.
A few minutes later, Pete was back. "Okie dokie, I'm all set." We both walked out of the front door and down the concrete path that led to the driveway. We hopped in Pete's small gray car and sped off.
Pete looked at me. "Want me to turn on some music?" I nodded and rested my head against the window. I watched all the houses and buildings speed away as we drove.
Pete clicked the button for the radio and soon our ears were filled with the song Toxic by Brittany Spears. Pete began humming and before we knew it, both of us were belting out the lyrics.
"Don't you know that you're toxic!" We sang loudly. "And I love what you do! Don't ya know that you're toxic! Wah-wah-wah-wah doodle-doodle-do doodle-doodle-do!" We both laughed and kept singing at the top of our lungs. We gestured with our hands to add emotion to the song.
Once we arrived at the local icecream parlor, Denny's Scoop, we hopped out and headed inside.
We were hit with a strong drop of temperature when we entered the parlor, it was freezing. We chose our flavors, cookie monster and raspberry cheesecake, then sat down at a stone table outside on the porch.
We rambled on about music and movies until we barely had an album or film left to cover. We ate out icecream, most of it melting by the end, and talked about what we wanted to do when we both got older and finished what we were doing now.
Pete said he wasn't really feeling the teaching vibe anymore and really wanted to be a musician. I told him I wanted to be a musician when I got older as well. We laughed about the idea of us being in a band and agreed maybe when we were older we'd join a band together.
Pete looked behind him every so often, as if he was expecting someone. I shrugged it off as best as I could.
"Hey, um, Patrick?" Pete asked, beginning to stand up. "I need to us the bathroom, but I'll be right back." I nodded and Pete ran off to use the outdoor bathroom, since there was no inside one.
After ten minutes, I decided to go check on him. I grabbed my raspberry cheesecake icecream and walked over.
"Hey Pete, I-" I said, turning the corner. I was soon cut off by what I saw. My mouth dropped and my icecream fell to the ground.
"Patrick," Pete began, I gave him a disgusted look. "It's not what it looks like!"
I felt tears gather in my eyes and I took off into a sprint. This time, I wouldn't come back.
