Chapter 2:

I woke up and it was midnight probably. I yawned and looked around. I was in a room, in a bed. I looked around for Jason. I soon heard the bathroom door open and a tall man look at me. I examined him in a pair of basketball shorts and a tank top. “Where are we?” I asked. He smiled at my wondering eyes. I looked away. “We’re in a motel. You just looked uncomfortable in the car. I thought we could just stop in for the night and sleep. We’ll leave in the morning.” he said. I watched him as he walked over to a couch. He took off his tank top and folded it. He sat it down on the table next to him then walked over to my bedside. “May I use a pillow?” he asked. I examined his up close body. “Of course.” I said. He smiled and took a pillow. “Try and get a little more sleep. We’ll leave around six and get to Washington around Monday afternoon.” he said. He sat the pillow down and pulled a small blanket on top of him. “Goodnight Anna.” he smiled. “Goodnight.”

The next morning, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I opened my eyes to see Jason. “Wake up sleeping beauty.” he whispered. I looked at him and then the clock; five-thirty. I yawned. “Everything is all packed except your toothbrush and brush. Toothpaste is already in the bathroom.” he said walking over the front door. “I’ll go warm up the car.” he said and with that he left. I rolled out of bed, and walked to the bathroom. I took the brush and brushed my long dark brown wavy hair back into a high ponytail and then began to brush my teeth. After a good two minute brush, I rinsed my mouth and washed my face, splashing water on my semi tan face.

I grabbed my tooth brush and brush, and walked out to the car. As I sat down, I found my bag and put the utensils in the front pocket. Jason watched me. I looked at him as I sat down and buckled my seat beat. “Ready?” he asked. I nodded in return. We started off the front desk. “Let me hurry and drop this off and we’ll go.” he said and with that got out the car. I watched his body disappear into the doors and laid back in the chair. I looked out my window and noticed a car. I didn’t pay too much attention to it. Right as the car parked, two men stepped out. They looked at each other then started for the car. Right as they began walking, Jason ran out and opened the door. Jason sped off not looking back.

My heart began to race. “Jason! Were those the guys?” I asked. Jason turned swiftly. “Yes! I don’t know how they knew where we were!” he said making another sharp turn. I looked back and noticed they weren’t following.

“Jason, I think we’re good.” he said. Jason got on the freeway, reducing his speed. His heart was beating fast, but honestly, I don’t think it could of out raced mine. Jason looked at me. “You okay?” he asked. I nodded in reassurance.

He laid his hand on my leg. “I promise I won’t let anything happen to you, Anna. You’re under my protection. I will not let you down or hurt.” he said. I smiled. Even thought I was still confused, I chose to let the questions pause. Jason was going to save me from who knows what and I’m just going to stay grateful.

Hours passed. We were just hitting Sacramento, when I began to feel hungry. Jason probably sensed it before I could say anything. “So, what will it be? McDonalds or Wendy’s for breakfast?” he asked. I shrugged. “McDonalds is fine.” I replied. I didn’t like choosing. I kind of liked it when people do it for me. Jason made a few turns and then pulled up to McDonalds. I looked at my phone and saw it was ten. We went through the drive through and order our breakfast. Jason soon parked in a lot and we began to eat. I took sips of my Carmel Mocha in between each bite of my hash brown.

I looked up from my coffee and watched Jason as he took bites out of his pancakes.

“So, why exactly are we going to Forks our of everywhere?” I asked.

Jason sighed. “Question time now?” he whined.

I nodded.

He sat his pancakes down on his lap/ “Ok. So, in Forks, my father owns a home. I’m pretty sure you don’t remember him either. I don’t even know how you could forget who I was.” he said. I raised an eyebrow. “Do tell me who you are and how I know you.’ I said. Jason smiled and looked down at his lap. “We were kids. This was before you were adopted. We use to play together, go to daycare together, everything. Then your parents got in a fight with-” he paused. “With who?” I asked. He looked up at me. “Do you believe in monsters; werewolves, vampires?” he asked. I looked at him. I started laughing. “Of course not!” I said through each giggle.

He held a straight face. I stopped laughing. “Are you trying to tell me they’re real?” I asked.

“You’re parents are not who they say they are. They’re cold. Made from ice. Well, you’re father is. You’re mom was mortal when she had you, but she was near death before your father changed her. Those men that are after you, think you’re harmful and want to kill you.” he said. I looked at him in disbelief. Is this guy crazy?!

I shook my head. He took my hand and held it to his chest. “Do you feel that?” he asked. I looked at him dead in his eyes.

“That’s a heart beat. I’m just like you, Anna. I have a heart beat, I can eat human food. I can be around humans without wanting to feed. But, I’m fast. I’m strong. And underneath this warm skin, is ice. If my heart were to stop, I wouldn’t die. And neither would you. But when bit by another vampire, the venom can still change you into a full vampire. In order for us to die, our bodies would have to be ripped to pieces and burned in a fire.” he said.

I took my hand back and looked at Jason. That was a lot to take in. “Are my parents still alive?” I asked. Jason nodded. “But we need to hurry to them. They want to see you breathing.” he said. The sound of that gave me the chills. Jason cupped his hand on my cheek. “I promise you, you would get there safely. I intend to keep that promise.” he said. He looked deep into my eyes, like he was reading into my soul. He began to lean towards me. I couldn’t move. The world around me stopped.

Before his lips were inches away from mine, I looked down. I didn’t know this guy. I couldn’t just let some random guy who happens to know my parents and my whole life, kiss me. He took a deep breath. “You still don’t remember, do you?” he asked.

Remember what? I shook my head.

“When we were kids, because we were so alike, our parents imprinted us to be together, Anna, you’re my partner.”
