Chapter 4:
The next morning, I woke up in Jason’s arms. Jason looked down at me. “Good morning.” he smiled. I looked at him and then to the clock. “It’s eleven! Weren’t we suppose to leave at eight?” I asked. Jason nodded. “We were, but you were so tired and looked so beautiful, I didn’t want to wake you.” he said. I blushed and looked away. “We only have two to three hours left to go. Shouldn’t be a bad drive.” he said. I got up and walked to the bathroom with a huge headache. I brushed my teeth and hair, and threw on some shorts and a sweat shirt. “Anna, come here.” Jason said I walked out to see Jason looking at the TV. I sat down next him.
“Neighbors found and identified the dead couple to Police eight a.m. this morning. Clair and Derek James were brutally murdered last night around three in the morning. No clues to who or what could of have done it, but police can’t seem to find anyway of contacting other family.” the news lady said.
Jason turned off the TV and looked at me. Tears instantly began falling from my eyes. Jason hugged me, letting me cry into his shoulder. “Shh… Anna. It’s going to be okay.” he cooed. “They’re dead.” I sobbed. Jason rubbed my back and hugged my tightly. “My dream was real. That’s how she looked. I didn’t see my father get hurt though. I’ve lost everything.” I cried. Jason could do nothing but rub my back and comfort me as much as he could.
“Do you want to stay in for the day and we can go tomorrow?” he asked. I nodded only wanting to crawl back in bed and cry. Jason kissed my forehead and looked at my face that was covered in tears. “I’m going to let them know we’re staying another night. Just relax. I’ll get you a glass of water.” he said. I laid down in bed and buried my face in the pillow.
This was all my fault. If I would of just stayed home with my family, and not move so far away, I wouldn’t of had to leave with the last words I’ll see you next summer. I should of just stayed and been the good daughter they wanted me to be, work closer to home, and have an apartment there. If I wasn’t a stupid half immortal creature, they wouldn’t be dead either. The guilt burnt inside me as tears continued to fall.
Hours passed. My head pounded as it laid on Jason’s chest. He rubbed my forehead, brushed loose pieces of hair back. It was hard to think. My only family was now gone. Well my only breathing family. Jason took my hand and kissed it holding it close to his chest. I never felt so comfort and loved by someone other than my parents. I always kept people away. I never wanted to fall for someone, because I was always hurt. But Jason is different. I don’t know. Something about him made me all of a sudden nervous.
After about six hours of crying and cuddling, I got up. “We can go now.” I said. Jason looked at me concerned. “Anna, we can stay here for the night.” he said. I sniffed and wiped the tears off my face. “We can. Its okay.” I said. He stood up and pulled me into a tight hug. I did nothing but hug him back. I felt so safe.
“I’ll get your stuff.” he said releasing me. I watched as he disappeared into the bathroom. I walked over to my glass of water. I took a few sips before Jason walked out, my bag over his shoulder. He closed the door and grabbed the key. He held out his hand, palm side up. I stared at it then grabbed it. He smiled softly and kissed the top of my hand. I smiled at him and then we headed out.
It wasn’t too long till we got to Washington. The air was cold. Something I wasn’t really use to. I look at the window at all the people. The town was small. I felt a hand on top of mine. I looked over at Jason. “Everything will be okay.” he said. I guess he could tell I was nervous. I was scared that my biological parents wouldn’t like me. I know. Stupid. I was more scared that they didn’t like me than that they’re blood sucking creatures.
I looked over at Jason. “Do our people kill other humans?” I asked. Jason shook his head. “We choose to feed off of animals. It makes it looks like hunters did the killing and people are safe. Not too many people know about us here.” he said. That made me less nervous. About twenty minutes later, we pulled up to a gate deep in the woods. Jason reached into the glove department and pressed a button which opened the gate.
Inside was a small town. Little houses, stores… tons of immortal humans. Though some were tan, they were as dead as the others. People turned their heads as we drove by. “Why are they all looking at me?” I asked, nervous. “It’s okay, Anna.” he giggled. “They’ve just never seen you here. This is the safest place for them and to see a new comer, it frightens them and it will force them to feed. Once they start, they can’t stop.” I took his hand, feeling more safe.
We drove more into the woods, only to find a house with clear glass walls in the downstairs area. I swallowed the lump in my throat. “It’s okay. Just be yourself. You’re parents will love you.” he said. He got out the car and opened the passenger door. I took his hand as I got out the car. Before I could blink, two semi tan people, who had the same features as me were standing in front of us. I looked at the woman. She was beautiful. Her hair was dark brown and wavy like me, her eyes the same color; just like mine. She was no taller than five-foot-six and had a very slim body.
The man was a bit tanner with brown messy hair. His eyes were a lighter brown and he was more muscular.
I stared at the woman as she looked back at me. “Anna?” she whispered. I nodded and tears began to build up. She ran to me taking me into her arms. “My beautiful Anna! You have grown up so much!” she cried. I looked over to the man and smiled as he made his way towards us. He hugged around his wife. “Welcome home Anna.” he said, his voice very deep.
Two other people appeared. The man looked a lot like Jason and the woman was a bit pale. My parents released me. “Welcome home Anna.” Jason’s mom said hugging me lightly. I hugged her back, though I didn’t remember her. “You look so beautiful! Oh my! You look just like your mother.” she said stepping back and examining me.
Jason came to my side. “Anna. This is my mother Lanaye and my father Daren.” he said introducing me. I smiled at them. “It’s very nice to see you both.” I said.
“Do come in! We have so much to catch up on!” my mother said walking into the house. Everyone followed. Before I started walking, I felt Jason’s hand in mine. I smiled at him. “Welcome home my love.” he whispered planting a kiss on my forehead.
We walked through the beautiful house as glass walls turned to normal painted walls. We came to the living room. “Please have a seat. Us adults will be right back.” my mom said and they all left the room. I looked at Jason with confusion. “They’re going to eat.” he said. I nodded. We walked over to the couch. I took a deep breath.
“I told you they’d like you.” he smiled. I smiled at him. “I know. Jason I just want to thank you for everything.” I said. He shook his head. “No, Anna. Don’t thank me. We were imprinted to each other and now I must protect you.” he said. “I know.” I paused. “But thank you.” I said softly.
Jason looked softly into my eyes as I did to his. The feelings grew for Jason fast. I didn’t know how to stop it. I didn’t want to fall for someone. But the thing is, it wasn’t just someone. The man imprinted on me and was in my life forever.
He leaned in close, cupping my face. “Anna.” he whispered as he was only inches away from my face. “Yes?” I whispered. He looked into my eyes, concentrated on me. “I… I don’t know if you feel this way but…” he paused. I could no longer wait for him. I closed the gap in between us, feeling his soft lips on mine. He looked at me. “I love you.”
