Chapter 1:
I walked out of the usual Starbucks with the usual coffee in San Diego, California. The wind was blowing slightly, and it just seemed like a perfect day. I go sit out at a table and start sipping my coffee and look around Facebook on my iPhone. As I scroll through my news feed, a tall, tan, attractive man sat down in front of me. I looked up from my phone and sat my coffee down. “Can I help you?” I asked. He just looked at me, straight face, dark brown eyes in concentration and thought. I looked at him, raising me eyebrow and standing up. He stood up and stopped me before I could walk. “Miss James, wait!” He said. I looked at him, confusion written all over my face. He signaled me to sit down.
I sat down, starting at him with confusion. He looked at me with a straight face. “Miss James, you don’t know who I am, do you?” he asked. I looked him up and down. If I knew who he was, I wouldn’t forget his face or his nice toned body. I shook my head. He sighed. “I’m sorry, but I really don’t.” I said still looking at him. He looked down then back up.
“Well, that doesn’t matter. But you are in big trouble, Miss James.” he said. “Please call me Anna.” I said. He nodded in response. “But honestly, I think you have the wrong James.” I said standing up. He stood up with me. “Anna Marie James? Twenty-two years old? Lives in a two bedroom apartment right off of Camino Del Norte?” he said. I looked at him wide eyed. I shook my head in disbelief. “How did you know all of that?” I asked feeling a little freaked out. The tall man looked behind me and then to me, grabbing my arm. “There’s no time. Just please come with me, and I’ll explain the rest!” he said. I tried shaking my arm out of his grip, but he was way stronger than I was. He looked behind me, worry written on his gorgeous face. “Please, Anna. I won’t hurt you. I would never hurt you.” he said. With those words, I found trust in him. “Ok. I trust you.” I said.
He smiled softly, then started towards a black Hummer. He unlocked the car, and we both got in, racing down the street. After a good twenty minutes, we were out of their sight. The man got off my exit and drove ten minutes to my apartment. He got out the car and opened the passenger door and helped me out the car. “You need to grab your clothes and fast. We need to go. They’ll find us here. This will be the first place they look.” he said.
With a million questions still going through my head, I did what he told me. I don’t know what was wrong with me, but I had too much trust in him.
I ran inside, grabbing a backpack. I packed a few shirts, shorts, make up, hair stuff, and tooth brush. I ran as fast as I could to the car, locking my doors. I watched my home as it soon faded away.
The ride up North began. “Who are you?” I asked the man, desperate for his name. “Jason.” he replied. I looked at him. The name fit his face. On to the next question. “What is happening and where are we going?” I asked. “Let’s just say, the men that want you aren’t good men.” he said. That only built up more questions. “Why?” I asked. Jason turned off an exit then focused on the road. “It’s a long story, Anna. It’ll make more sense when we get to Forks.” he said. I raised my eyebrows at him. “Forks?! Like Forks, Washington?!” I asked. He nodded. I sat back in my chair. Maybe this wasn’t a smart idea. Maybe I should of just stayed home on my Saturday. “How can I trust you? You’re a random guy who knows stuff about me. You could be a creep or something!” I said now thinking aloud. Jason looked at me, his hand tightening the wheel. “Why wouldn’t you trust me?! I’m pretty much saving you!” he said. I looked at him then out the window. I guess in a way he’s right. I lay back in my chair, noticing Jason was getting frustrated. I had millions of questions, but I didn’t want to annoy or make him more mad, so I closed my eyes and ended up falling asleep.
