After leaving Ryder I head to my parents room. I walk in to find them sitting up in bed.

"Hey you two. How are you guys?" I ask them, coming in and taking my usual seat.

"Tired. How are you? You look a little stressed." Mum says. I roll my seat over to their beds.

"I'm okay. Just some crazy decisions to be made since I'm home now." I tell them, leaning back in the chair.

"What are they? Maybe we can help." My dad suggests. So I told them everything. About Ryder and the research I did. About James. About the Moon Goddess. Everything.

"Oh sweetie if we knew things would be this confusing when you came back, we wouldn't have asked you to come." Mum says, taking my hand.

"I wouldn't have it any other way. I'd rather be here despite all the drama." I tell her, giving her hand a small squeeze.

"So how do you think this thing with James is going to go?" Dad asks.

"I honestly don't know. I want to give him a chance but if he's anything like he used to be then this second chance won't last long. I'll see how this goes but for now I'm going to stay away from Ryder." I tell them, crossing my arms and lying my head against the back of the seat.

"Maybe you should just become friends with Ryder. He seems nice." Mum says.

"Your mother is right. Maybe you shouldn't dismiss him." Dad adds in.

"I just don't know. I mean did you hear what the Moon Goddess said?" I ask them.

"Kara she never said you shouldn't be with Ryder. Of course there's a chance of pain. But there is with everything. Maybe you need to have a little faith." Mum says, taking my hand again and tracing small circles on the back of it.

"I don't want anymore pain. It's bad enough knowing what's going to happen to you guys." I say, squeezing mum's hand lightly.

"We know. And we love you so much. You are strong. I have faith that you will make the decision that makes you happy." Dad says, taking my other hand and kissing it.

I smile at them sadly.

"You two get some sleep. I'll stay here and read my book." I say, picking up the book I left in here last time.

They both smile and nod.

Soon enough both of them are fast asleep.

"Hey." I hear a voice say after I've been sitting in silence for about 20 minutes.

I turn around to see James and smile at him.

"Hey." I say. He pulls up a chair beside mine.

"So I was wondering if you would like to go for a walk? I've got a small picnic." He says, holding up the basket that he has beside him.

"I'd love to. I'll have to come back here after. I told them I'd be here when they woke up." I say, nodding towards my sleeping parents.

"Sure. Let's go." He says, standing up and taking my hand. We walk hand in hand for a while.

We stop walking and sit down beside a large tree. James opens the basket and takes out sandwiches and fruit.

"You packed all this?" I ask him, taking a bite of the green apple I got.

"Yea I did. I wanted to do something special. Still making up for what I did." He says, the last bit quieter.

"Well thank you. This is very nice." I say, leaning over and pecking his cheek lightly.

He grins and hugs me. I chuckle lightly.

We sit back how we were and dig in to the food. When we finish the food we walk back and leave the basket on  the kitchen bench before heading back outside. We walk around for a while longer before I decide I should head back to my parents room.

"I had fun. Thank you for this." I say, turning and smiling at James when we arrive at the door of my parents room.

"My pleasure. I had fun too." He says, smiling.

Not a moment later I feel James' lips on mine. I kiss back and feel tiny sparks. Less then I expected but still pleasant.

We pull back and he grins at me.

"I should go in. See you later." I say, pecking his lips then heading inside the room.

"See you later Kara." I hear him say.

I turn around and smile at him then walk over to my seat and sit down. I pull out the book I was reading before but before I even start reading I hear my dad's voice.

"Nice to see you two working things out. I confess we didn't think it would happen." He says. I close the book and look up at him.

"Believe me I didn't think it would happen either but he is my mate." I say to him.

"But not the mate you're meant to be with." Mum says.

"Don't start with that. I've made my decision mum. I'm not going back on it now." I tell her, smiling slightly.

"I know dear." She says, patting my hand.

I smile at her and we fall into comfortable silence until the pack doctor walks in.

"Alpha and Luna. And this must be your daughter." He says, smiling at me.

"Yes. This is Kara. You probably remember her from when she was here a few years ago." My father says.

"Yes I do remember her. Nice to see you again." He says, smiling kindly at me.

"You two." I say.

"I have your test results and you'll be pleased to hear you haven't gotten any other infections." He says, reading off the clipboard he's holding.

"However?" I ask him.

"However your injuries have worsened and it is now definite that both of you will not survive this." He says in a grave voice.

I put my hand over my mouth and somehow manage to hold back my tears.

"I'm very sorry. The last thing I'd ever want to do is deliver this news." The doctor says.

"Thank you." My father says. The doctor nods and leaves.

Without my consent a few tears slip.

"Sweetheart we knew this was going to happen." Mum says, taking my hand and kissing it.

"But I don't want to let you guys go. I don't think I can." I tell them, the tears running freely now.

"You are a strong girl. Besides you have your friends and James. You'll be okay." Dad says, kissing my forehead.

"How can I be okay without you two?" I ask them.

"In time you will be." Mum says in a soothing voice. I shift my chair closer to them and feel them both wrap their arms around me. I'm crying into their arms. I feel them both hug me a little closer and eventually the tears stop but we continue hugging.

"We love you so much." I hear dad say and feel him kiss my forehead.

"I love you guys. More then anything." I say, sending them a small smile.
