Kara's P.O.V
"Hey Kara." I hear a voice say. I sit up on my bed and look at the doorway of my room. It's James. I smile at him and lay back down.
"Are you okay?" He asks, sitting down beside me.
"Yea. Just tired." I tell him, pulling up my duvet.
"I can tell. It's ten in the morning. Get up so we can go do something." He says.
"No I think I'm going to have a day in bed." I say, looking up at him where he's leaning on the bedhead.
"It's a Saturday. We haven't hung out in a while. Come on." He whines.
"We hung out yesterday. Just let me have a day to myself James." I say, rolling over.
"Fine." He grumbles then leaves.
I sleep for another hour then slip on some comfy clothes and get my laptop out. I go to Netflix and pick what I want to start watching. I decide to watch Reign since I've never seen it before so I hit play on the first episode.
I get to episode 6 when I hear my door open again. I pause the episode and look up. It's Connor, Elliot and Claudia.
"Hey guys." I say, smiling at them and pulling my laptop on the bed beside me.
"Hi. We were just wondering where you were but now we know." Claudia says.
"Thought I'd have a day in bed." I say, wrapping my arms around myself and shrugging.
"We get it. You don't need to explain yourself to us." Connor says, sitting on the bed beside me. The others follow suit.
"Has James come in to see you?" Claudia asks.
"Briefly. Tried to convince me to spend the day with him." I say, leaning back against the bed head.
"Why did you say?" She asks.
"I just feel like having a day to myself. Chilling out and catching up on sleep." I tell them.
"Makes sense. Have any other plans for the day?" Connor asks this time.
"I'm gonna visit mum and dad later but apart from that I'll stay here." I say.
"Okay. Well we'll leave you to you're chill day. See you later. Call if you need anything." Elliot says, standing up. The others do the same and they all head out, sending me a smile as they do. The door closes behind me and I pull my laptop back onto my lap. I snuggle up under my duvet and press play on Reign again.
Hours pass and I decide to go downstairs. I take my laptop with me and go straight to my parents room. They're sitting up watching TV when I walk in.
"Sweetheart. It's good to see you." Mum says when she spots me.
"It's good to see you too. sorry I didn't come visit earlier." I say pulling a chair over to sit closer to them.
"I okay. What have you been up to today?" Dad asks me.
"I sent the day in bed actually." I say, leaning back in my chair.
"That's good. Taking a day to yourself is good." Mum says smiling.
"Yes that's good. You've been through a lot lately." Dad says, nodding in agreement.
"I must admit it was nice. But I did miss you guys." I say, smiling at them.
"We missed you too." Dad says.
"So how are things going with you and James?" Mum asks me, changing the subject.
"Well I think. Although the mate bond isn't quite as strong as I thought it was." I tell her, shrugging.
"Really? I found it very strong. Your father and I were hardly apart it was so strong." Mum says, chuckling slightly.
"I guess James and I are a little different. I know it's there and everything but it feels more muted then powerful." I tell her.
"Perhaps the moon goddess has changed her mind." Dad says.
"What do you mean?" I ask him.
"Haven't you read the book that's in our library? It's very large and very old. It says that sometimes the moon goddess thinks that a person will suit another but then changes her mind. She picks someone else and the pull is stronger to them then it is to the originally picked mate." Dad explains.
"I never read that. I read the second chance mate part." I tell him.
"That is part of it. But being a mate is all about your connection. It is what brings mates together in the first place you should go and read all of the book. It takes a while to get through but it's worth it." My mum says.
"You know what. I will. I'll go get it right now. I'll be back." I say, hopping up and running out of the room.
Irun up the stairs and into the library. It takes me about five minutes to find the book. I slide it off the shelf and ran back down the stairs and into their room.
"Got it." I say, sitting down in my chair and taking a few deep breaths and laying the book across my lap.
"That's great. You should get reading." Dad says, chuckling.
"I was thinking while running that is. Reality is I don't have much more time to spend with you so now about I read it out loud. I know it's not some epic fantasy book." I say, smiling and opening the book.
"That sounds perfect honey." Mum says, sounding teary.
I smile and turn to the first page.
"Get comfortable. This is going to take a while." I say. This makes mum and dad laugh. I smile and start reading.
