Kara's P.O.V

Earlier that day

I wake up in the late morning and slip into some fresh clothes for the day. I decide to get some homework done so I sit down at my desk and open up my laptop. The small amount of homework I had to get done was finished fast so I head down to eat some what is now lunch.

"Morning Kara." Some people say as I walk down to the kitchens. I smile and say good morning back to each of them.

When I reach the kitchen I pull some of the leftovers from last nights dinner out and heat them up. Soon enough I'm sitting up at the bench eating. After I finish eating I sit there, staring at my empty plate and wonder what Ryder's doing now. Whether he's made his decision or not. Then my mind slips to my parents. I decide to grab my sketchbook and pencils and go out to my clearing but first I pay a quick visit to my parents.

When I arrive they are both fast asleep. I decide not to wake them and instead write a small note. I place it on the bed side table and head out of the room and out of the house.

I follow the path and end up at my clearing as usual. I sit down to the side of it and look at the flowers in front of me. I place my sketchbook on my lap, pick up my pencil, and start drawing.

Sitting in the empty clearing so far from the house with my sketchbook is peaceful. The silence eases my overworking mind. The soft pencil strokes and the wind are all that can be heard until I hear soft footsteps on the grass. I turn around briefly and see Ryder standing at the entrance of the clearing. I turn back to the sketchbook.

"Hello." Is all I say.

"Hi. Can I come sit?" I hear him ask. I nod and listen to his footsteps. Soon enough he's sitting beside me.

Out the corner of my eye I see him glance at my drawing.

"You're very talented" He says after a few minutes.

"Thank you. That's sweet." I say, turning and smiling at him then turning back to my drawing.

He says nothing for a while and I continue drawing.

"I'm guessing you're not here to watch me draw." I say without looking at him.

"No." He says in a tight voice.

"What's up?" I ask.

"Um. I've made my decision." He says slowly.

"Should I be scared by how formal that sounded?" I ask. We both laugh a little then stop and I wait for him to continue.

"No. I just um. Can't find the right words for it." He say, stumbling over his words.

"Uh well I can give you a little advice in this. Just go right out and say this or the tension will eat us both alive." I say, pausing drawing and crossing my arms.

"Okay. Okay." He say, scrambling for words.

I sit there, waiting for him to form a sentence.

"I umm." He says.

"Oh god please say it." I say, placing my hands on either side of my face.

"I want to try this. The friends thing." He finally spits out.

I sit motionless. Secretly I was hoping he would want to be more then friends. Despite everything that happened. The disappointment makes my heartache but I push down the pain and smile at him

"Really?" I ask, sounding as happy as I can.

"Yes. You're right. We don't have to dive into a relationship but I want to go back to the time when I sat with you guys. And I'll be honest with you. I miss you." He says, smiling at me.

I sigh in what might sound like relief. But is actually sadness and guilt for making it come to this. To just being friends.

"Okay. I would love that." I say, still smiling.

"Let's start now. I'm going to go and grab a book and we can sit here for a while." He says while standing up.

"Okay. Sounds nice." I say, looking up at him.

"I'll be right back." He says to me. I nod and smile then he turns and walks away.

For a few minutes I stare at the entrance, biting my lip. After a while I turn back to my sketchpad and start drawing again.

It's a while until Ryder appears again carrying a book in his hands.

I hear Ryder walk back into the clearing. I turn around and smile at him then turn back to my sketchbook.

After what feels like a long time I finish the drawing and place my pencil down on top of the pad.

"What's up?" He asks, placing his bookmark in his book and turning to look at me.

"Oh I just finished my picture." I say, smiling at him.

"Oh. Can I see?" He asks. I nod, pick up my pencil and hand him the sketchpad.

He takes it and stares at the drawing.

"Wow. This is beautiful. You have a gift." He says, looking at me and smiling.

"Thanks. That's sweet. I like drawing." I say, feeling my cheeks heat up.

"I didn't know that. I probably don't know quite a few things about you. How about we play twenty questions to get to know each other." He says.

"Sounds good. You start." I say, nodding.

"Okay well I'll go with the obvious. What are you hobbies?" He asks.

"Well obviously drawing. I also like photography and I love music. I also like reading. What's your favourite band?" I ask.

"I like Imagine Dragons. Favourite colour?"

"Blue. Favourite sport?"

The questions go back and forth for the rest of the day until it starts to go dark. We then head inside to get some dinner. I sit beside him at dinner and let myself smile. A real smile. Despite not being as close as I'd like to be, I still missed him. My whole body feels warmer being able to sit beside him.
