Trust

Happiness
Love
These words all hold a strong meaning to every single person in one way or another. My dad always used to tell me how these five words can affect your life in so many different ways. I didn’t believe him of course, being the stupid naïve seven year old I was.
I remember the day clearly. I was sitting on my dad’s lap laughing at how dumb my brother was acting, while my sister sat on my mom’s lap. We sat together all day watching random movies, being the perfect family. This was the last family moment we ever had.
I remember being woken up the next morning by my father, kneeling next to me. I remember the exact words he said to me, they never left my head.
‘Addison, I love you with all my heart. You are my little girl, my princess. I need to go away for a while. You won’t understand now, but hopefully you will when you’re older. I have to go now, but I need you to be the strong, brave little girl I know you are. I love you.’
I was pulled into a hug; with a quick swift kiss on my forehead he was gone. I watched my dad walk out my bedroom door for the last time. When I woke up later that day I walked out of my room confused as to where my dad went, but everyone refused to answer my questions. Being the youngest sucks, no one tells you anything because they assume you won’t ‘understand’.
I watched Cody, my brother, slowly pull away from us. He stopped talking to his friends, he stopped going to his sports practices, and he stopped being the boy I grew up with all together. Same with Hailey, my sister, she refused to acknowledge my existence, she stopped coming to dance and cheer practice with me. I was young, confused and alone. But hey, what else is new in my life.
I would never regret that day, I was so grateful. I wanted to go stay in that moment forever. I never wanted to let go. Looking back now, knowing how it all turned out, I just want to relive that day for the rest of my life. Having a real conversation with my mom, not trying to understand her constant slurring. Hugging my sister, not blocking hits. Pulling my brothers hair, not pulling weeds out of the ground by his grave. Telling my dad to his face how much I love him, not looking up to the sky to say it. Looking at my own reflection in the mirror and seeing a happy girl, not a girl who’s been through so many heart breaks and let downs.
This isn’t a story that’s just me complaining about how I lost my family, it’s a story about me. The girl who was strong enough to pull through the hard times, the girl who was brave enough to never back down, the girl who could walk alone not needing anyone pity or assistance.
It’s about me, Addison Thomas.

A/N Hey guys I just wanted to say in advance that none of this story is true in my life; the character isn’t actually based off me. But the way that I portray her, all of her qualities, that’s who I want to be. I’m sorry if anyone actually did go through this, it was just a story idea I had.
Thanks for reading.
