Chapter 5: You Made Me Smile Again

I woke up the next morning to Ava's obnoxious snoring. We ended up falling asleep at four in the morning, yep not my best idea. I glanced at the clock to see how much time I have to relax. When I see the clock, I just about have a heart attack. It's already 10:15! I have forty five minutes to get ready before Ava and I need to start heading out! I give Ava a swift, light quick in the butt to try and get her up, she of course ignored it. I ran to the bathroom for a quick shower, so I can smell good for him...wow that might have been the weirdest sentence ever. I quickly stripped out of my clothing and jumped in the steaming shower.

I jump out about ten minutes later. 'Woo! World record for fastest girl in the shower ever!' I mentally congratulated myself as I dried off in the bathroom. I grabbed my hair dryer and just dried the top of my hair rather quickly. I put that away and ran back to my room, when I got there Ava was still asleep. 'Really! Wake the hell up!' I ran to grab some underwear and a bra; after I slipped those on I threw the towel out of my room. Ava grumbled something about the noise. I glanced at the clock and saw it was 10:37, I need to move faster! I realize you all are probably thinking 'I thought he wanted to meet at noon...' well yes that's true, but my brother knows noon is when I would have to meet him if he would let me go. So Ava and I decided to go on the lie that we are going shopping in town, so we need to leave about elevenish, so we won't be suspected. I run to my closet and grab a pair of worn blue jean short shorts. I don't even have a shirt on when I walk over to Ava and shake her like a mad woman. She jumps up and looks as my slightly confused; suddenly realization hit her like a train because she jumped straight up. "Shit!" she kept repeating under her breath as she changed very quickly, she brushed through her hair and started putting on some make up.

I was still shirtless looking for a shirt that I liked. Finally I found the perfect one; it was a faded yellow v-neck. I pulled on a black tank top, then my shirt, I walked over to my high tops and grabbed my Nike's that are yellow and a dark purple. I ran over to my full body mirror, I scrunched up my hair at the ends to make the natural curls happen faster. I then grabbed my eyeliner and lightly outlined my eyes, and placed a little mascara. One last look over and I was ready. I grabbed my wristlet and walked out of my room. Ava must have already left to go grab her money, because when I went downstairs my brother waved to me. "Have fun shopping with Ava!" he said cheerily, I honestly felt bad for lying to him but I had to do it. I frowned suddenly aware, that when I came home with my hat on my head he'll realize I went and saw him. So I walked over and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. "What are you guys shopping for?" he asked obviously not really caring just making conversation. I smiled at the perfect opportunity to lie. "Well I really want a new hat so I plan on going to Tilly's to get my hat back." He nodded, looking me in the eyes.

He raked a hand through his hair and sighed heavily. "I'm sorry I know you want to see this kid and get your hat back, I just don't feel safe with a gang member and my sister you know?" I nodded my head and finishing off my water bottle. Ava popped her head in and waved me to come with her. I lifted my hand to Cody and walked out the door. The whole walk there was me freaking out about seeing Hayden, and Ava calming me down. By the time we got to town it was 11:53. We took a longer route knowing it wouldn't take us an hour to get there. I took a deep breath and glanced down at my feet, pulling down my short a bit suddenly feeling very self conscious. "Hey..." Ava said gently pulling my hand to look at her. She had a sweet smile on her face, noticing my uneasiness. "He already finds you beautiful; there isn't a reason to worry. And I know he will love your personality too." She said with a bright smile. I bit my lip and nodded. "I'll meet you at Tilly's after you are done with your ice cream, just text me." I nodded again, and with that we walked off in separate directions. Ava going towards the library and I was headed off to get my hat back, and to have a date with a gang member. 'Huh, what could go wrong?'
