CHAPTER 8

"We're here."

We had finally arrived at an older building downtown, one that I hadn't really paid attention to before. It looked quite lovely from what I could see and appeared to be a hotel or something of the sort. But why would he take me here? I definitely wouldn't be staying the night if that's what he intended. I had morals you know.

"What are we doing here?" I asked a little confused.

"Well, because...we'll you'll see. Come on." Zayn replied excitedly, grabbing my hand and leading me through the double glass doors into the lobby.

The lobby was huge and dimmly lit. There was a large sitting area and people were socializing at what looked like the hotel bar. It was a very high class hotel, something I definitely wasn't used to.

As we walked by, we received several glances and whispers.

"This way." He said still holding my hand and pointing forward with his free hand. He lead us to the elevators and pressed the "up arrow" button.

Oh my god. Were we really going to a hotel room or something? I definitely was not ready for this. I just broke up with Isaac less than a week ago and I barely knew Zayn. I know millions of girls would die to be in my position but I wasn't a slut! I had values!

"Umm, Zayn?" I started to say. "I hope you don't think I'll, erm, that I'll 'spend the night' with you. We've known each other for a week and I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I'm that kind of girl. I..." I studdered as I tried to find the words.

He just grinned back at me and shock his head saying, "Of course I don't think that. This is a surprise! I told you, you will have to wait and see." Abruptly, one of the elevators dinged and the doors opened.

I felt my face start to turn bright red. Damn. Well if that wasn't embarrassing I don't know what is. We stepped into the elevator and Zayn pressed the button that said "Roof".

We were silent for a moment and I knew I had to say something.

"Look, I'm sorry I thought that's why you brought me here. I've been played by guys before and I didn't want to be made a fool of again."

"It's really okay. I guess it did seem like that's why I brought you here." He chuckled and ran his fingers through his hair.

I let out a sigh of relief. At least he didn't think I was a complete idiot.

"So are you going to give me a clue about what this surprise is?" I said trying changing the subject.

"Now, why would I do that?" He replied with a wink. Holy crap, I think my heart just literally skipped a beat.

Soon enough we arrived at the roof and stepped out of the elevator. We walked past a little iron gate and I couldn't believe what I saw. There was a beautiful swimming pool with a few cabanas and lounge chairs surrounding it, but past that was a table set for two. There were candles and twinkling lights everywhere, making the whole atmosphere very romantic.

"Wow." is all I could manage to say.

He did this all for me?

"This isn't even the best part." He said, leading me toward the edge of the roof. "Look."

We walked up to the railing and looked out into the night. It was a beautiful evening and the view was absolutely breathtaking. All the lights of downtown London twinkled in the darkness and you could see for miles and miles.

"So, are you surprised?" Zayn asked, a hopeful and proud grin on his face.

"Beyond surprised." I answered. "It's just so beautiful." I said looking back at the city.

Eventually, we made it back to our table and were served an Italian dinner by a waiter dressed in a white shirt, black pants, and a bowtie. Man, this place was so elegant! He served us both glasses of wine and we went back to our conversation.

We talked about nothing and everything. Our conversation came very naturally and the chemistry was definitely there. He told me about his family, growing up in Bradford, the X Factor process and how the band completely changed his life. He spoke about how much he loved art and drawing, what his tattoos meant, how hard it was for him to just go out in public, and crazy stories from his tours. I told him all about my job at The Drop, my family, funny stories about my friends, what had happened with Isaac, and how all my exes turned out to be dickheads. I also showed him my tattoos and spoke about what was happening at UNI, all my classes, and my love for art as well.

The waiter came back with dessert, a cheesecake with blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries on top, and more wine. Ooh, fancy.

"You have to promise me one thing Zayn." I said in the most solemn tone I could.

"And what would that be?" He asked with a serious look on his face.

"You have to promise me that you won't let me eat this whole thing by myself." I replied with a chuckle. I wasn't kidding either. This cheesecake looked delicious!

"Oh, you don't have to worry about that!" He said laughing. Man, his laugh was the cutest thing ever.

We went back to our conversation which quickly turned into really bad jokes, sporadic "dancing", and singing about how we needed more wine. Umm, we probably didn't need more wine. At all.

While we were "dancing" around singing Blurred Lines, the waiter came back to clean everything up at the table and couldn't help but smile at us. We thanked him for serving us and I even sang him a song. Something along the lines of "Thank you Mr. Waiter Man..". Oh whatever. I was drunk.

Finishing our rendition of Blurred Lines and Get Lucky, we made our way back to the railing of the roof to look out over the city. Man, it was even more beautiful than before. You could see the London Eye and Big Ben lit up against the darkness in the distance.

The wind blew gently and the cool air felt amazing on my skin. I leaned into Zayn a little more than I was.

"Thank you so much for tonight. It was a lovely surprise. And this view is just so....gorgeous." I said.

"You're very welcome." He replied, a cheeky grin on his face. He wrapped his arms around me a little tighter and gave me a peck on my forehead.

"And as for the view" He continued. "It's not as gorgeous as you are."

Man, what a line. I felt butterflies in my stomach and my heart beat like a drum in my chest.

"That's a very sweet thing to say. I guess we have ourselves a little charmer." I replied, turning my head to around to face him, our eyes meeting.

"Well, I told you I do try my best." He answered with a chuckle. I couldn't help but stare into his big brown eyes. They lit up in the darkness because of the twinkle lights. I could feel myself start to melt in his arms.

Before I knew it, he leaned in an kissed me. HOLY SHIT. I felt my knees give out from under me. The electricity in that kiss, I've never felt anything like that before. It wasn't a demanding or desperate kiss like what I've experienced in the past, it was a kiss filled with something else.

Tenderness and passion.

Our kiss finally broke and we couldn't help but smile at each other. This had been such an amazing night, I didn't want it to end. But I knew it had to. We took in the view one last time and made our way to the elevator.
