"I'm so sorry baby, I wish I could stay and help," Jeremy stated apologetically before kissing Kirstie on the cheek, as she frantically gathered ingredients.
She paused for a moment and smiled, "Its fine. It's my fault, I should've started baking sooner. Is—"
"Yes, I called him. He should be here any minute. He'll help you finish your baking, and then you'll be ready for the Christmas party. Good luck," Jeremy replied diligently, before smiling.
"Kirstin Taylor!" A familiar voice called out. Olaf leapt off of the couch, barking excitedly before running towards the tall blond.
Kirstie furrowed her eyebrows before looking at Jeremy as he turned to greet Scott.
"Hey," Jeremy greeted.
"Hi," Scott replied before crouching down and petting Olaf.
Kirstie cleared her throat softly, "Jeremy," she stated quietly, before nodding into the kitchen.
Jeremy gave her a worried look, "What's up?" He asked before following her farther into the kitchen, out of Scott's sight.
"Why is Scott here?" She whispered.
Jeremy's eyebrows knitted together, "You told me to invite him over so he could help you finish up with the baking," he replied.
Kirstie shook her head, "No. I said invite Mitch over. Their names aren't even remotely similar," she hissed.
"What's the big deal?" He replied.
Kirstie narrowed her eyes at him. "Did you ever watch that Sunday Brunch thing that we did, where we had to cook?" She questioned.
Jeremy gave her a clueless look, making her sigh.
"What're you guys talking about?" Scott blurted out, standing outside of the kitchen.
They both looked at him abruptly.
"Nothing. We were just saying goodbye," Kirstie replied casually.
"Have fun baking. I'll see you later," Jeremy stated, before giving Kirstie an apologetic look as he kissed her cheek.
Kirstie forced a smile and watched as Jeremy headed out, before turning towards Scott who smiled widely.
"So, what do you need me to do?" He asked, eagerly.
"Um..." she trailed off as she thought of any tasks she could give him that he couldn't possibly mess up. She would've just asked him to call Mitch, but she didn't want to hurt his feelings. He knew he wasn't good at cooking, but he was a sweetheart and offered his help anyway. She couldn't just turn him away.
She picked up the electric mixer and handed it to him. "Keep it on low, and mix that bowl of ingredients," she instructed cautiously.
He nodded and took it before tending to the bowl. Kirstie tried to focus on her next task, but she couldn't stop glancing back at Scott as he studied the button that changed the modes on the mixer.
She couldn't help but giggle when he flicked the switch, and the mixer started juddering violently in his large hands.
It was funny, and kind of adorable, at first, but then the dork dropped the mixer, and it landed into the bowl of ingredients he was supposed to mix.
"I am so sorry! I didn't—" he exclaimed frantically as he tried grabbing the running mixer out of the bowl of the mixture that was splattering everywhere.
Kirstie pinched the bridge of her nose before scurrying over and unplugging the device.
She looked up at Scott who was splotched with the batter. He gave her an awkward smile, trying to remain optimistic.
"Maybe I could try something else?" He offered sheepishly.
She nodded, "Go clean up, and I'll start over on the cake," she replied, smiling back.
"Okay," he replied before keeping his arms outstretched in front of him as he headed over to the bathroom.
Kirstie sighed, smiling slightly before cleaning up the mess.
Scott returned a few moments later, sans cake batter. "What do you need me to do?" He inquired, still smiling optimistically.
Kirstie clenched her teeth awkwardly as she looked at her unfinished projects. "Um, use the cookie cutters and make different shaped cookies with that dough right there," she instructed.
Scott nodded before going over to the bowl of dough.
Kirstie sighed. Surely he wouldn't be able to mess this up.
He didn't mess it up, but when she checked back in 15 minutes, ready to put them in the oven, he wasn't even halfway done.
She bit the inside of her cheek to keep from rushing him, and was just grateful that he wasn't spilling anything.
They talked casually while Kirstie rushed around the kitchen, trying to make everything perfect.
She checked back 10 minutes later, before frowning. "They aren't spread out evenly," she informed him.
Scott looked at the cookies before looking back at her. "I'm sorry. I'll try again. I got this," he assured her. He tried lifting one of the thin cookie cut-outs, cursing under his breath when it broke apart, and half of it fell back into the cookie sheet.
He huffed before dropping the other half.
"I am so sorry. I'm not good at baking....or cooking..." he blurted out.
Kirstie sighed, "Hun, I know," she assured him.
He looked at her sheepishly. "Jeremy made it sound urgent, and I figured that if you were desperate enough to recruit me, then I couldn't just say no. That would've made me a shitty friend," he explained.
Kirstie couldn't help but smile. He was such a sweet, helpful dork. "Thank you," she murmured before holding out her arms for a hug.
Scott grinned before pulling her into a hug.
"Want me to call Mitch?" He offered.
"Please."
