Sage POV

I could feel that something was wrong. The air smelt different as if it was tinted with foul fumes. I knew the smell but mixed between was a sweet scent. It smelt of innocence and fear. It was familiar.

In the distance a howl rung out, it was heartbroken. You could hear the anguish and pain the wolf was feeling in that howl. It was the sound of a wolf in mourning.

The howl continued for several minutes and with each passing second I was getting more annoyed. 'Just how big was this wolfs' lung capacity?'

The air was getting humid as my mood got worse the longer it howled. The first sign of the storm was the darkening of the sky and the low rumble of thunder in the distance.

I sighed before turning and following the innocent and sweet smell knowing it was the cause of the howling.

Appearing at the edge of a cliff, I looked down at the camp below. Hunters walked around with guns and crossbows. Some looked up anxiously at the sky as the first flash of lightening appeared.

In the middle of the camp was a cage where a small wolf pup laid motionless. The pups' coat was a brilliant white that shined orange in the camp fire light.

Three people sat around the cage while one taunted the pup with food.

Rage filled my mind as I watched the guy put food just out of the pups reach and as soon as the pup leaned forward he pulled the food away. The earth shook and the tremors caused the man to fall and crawl away from the cage looking around in fright.

My ego swelled even bigger at the looks of fear that appeared on the hunters faces as they looked at the storm and the trembling earth.

Fear me!

Lightening struck of the tents causing panic as they rushed to try and put out the flames. I took this as my chance to go down to the cage so I appeared next to the pup.

Carefully I lifted the cage but the pup gave a small whine as it opened its eyes when the cage moved. I cursed under my breath when one of the hunters turned to look at the cage. Before he could alert the others I disappeared with the cage and pup.

I reappeared close to the school knowing that it would be the last place they would look for me. Gently I placed the cage down before touching the lock. A small shock ran through me but I gripped the lock tightly as a large flow of electricity flowed into me before I let go as the lock fell from the cage in pieces.

Quickly opening the cage I picked up the small pup. The pup whined softly before slowly opening his eyes, Big amber eyes blinked slowly before focusing on my face.

The pup nudged my hand with his snout as he whimpered. A smile was forming on my lips as I healed the pup. He remembered me.

My head snapped to the right at the sound of footsteps approaching. I looked down at the pup when he nudged my hand again. Patting his head I kept watch for the person approaching. When the footsteps came within ten meters I put the pup on the ground before disappearing into the treetops. I stayed close to the pup in-case the person was unfriendly.

The pup whined loudly when I disappeared which alerted the person of our location. The footsteps approached faster until a boy appeared at the tree where the pup laid.

The pup perked up at the new arrival. The boy started talking to the pup as the pup whined in response. I disappeared when the boy looked up at me. The pup was in good hands and that was all I wanted.

I reappeared by the school hall where Chase stood waiting. He was deep in thought and he didn't notice me standing in front of him.

Chase POV

Something was off about the attack earlier today. Why would they only take one hostage? Why a pup that hardly knows anything in the pack? What are they achieving from attacking my pack and why now?

These questions whirled around in my head but I had no answers to them. It was frustrating to have all these theories as to why but none seemed likely.

I jumped at the sound of a door slamming shut. Turning around to look at the door leading to the hall, raising an eyebrow.

Shrugging I turned to face the front again only to nearly jump out of my skin. I grabbed the piece of material above where my heart was. My heart was racing and my breathing was slightly faster than normal.

"Don't do that!" I nearly shouted but the boy just shrugged. I just shook my head and sighed as the boy walked past me to enter the school. He didn't even give me a second glance as the doors swung shut behind him.

I don't know how long I stood there just staring at the door but I jumped again at the ecstatic shout in my head.

'Alpha! Alpha! Alpha! We found him! We found Caleb! He's safe! Justin found him in the forest away from the hunters!'

I froze at the news with only one thought on my mind. Who got him out?
