A STRANGER

Dear worker at the flower shop whose name tag says Jimmy,

I remember I was 14 years old. You found out about what my parents were doing and you felt completely disgusted. I begged you not to talk about it and finally, you agreed on one condition.

That since I walk past your flower shop every day you would give me a lily every time.  I had no choice but to agree.

And you kept doing what you said. Every day I would walk past and you would be waiting outside, with a lily. Adelina kept saying you had a thing for me since you were a third year in our school. I, being the person I am, disagreed.

To my benefit, no one was home when I arrived. I would always place it in a vase in my room and when one died, I had another to replace; it never raised suspicion with my parents.

Sadly though on the last day of school you were off, apparently, you had to move away for 4 years to Philadelphia. That day you gave me a bouquet of lilies and a note. You told me to read this note an hour after you left, so I did.

"Hello Veronica, it was a pleasure to give you a daily lily and to see that smile on your face.

I am going to miss you and miss giving you a lily but,

Adelina was right, I was very fond of you and I do wish things could work out but sadly they couldn't.

I wish to see you again when I return home, maybe spend some time with you.

I'll do anything to reconnect with you.

Your admirer, Jimmy."

Last week I saw your older sister in the market. I recognized her because she still worked at the flower shop and I still passed it daily. I asked how she was doing she said she was fine, she repeated the question and I repeated her answer. I asked when you were coming back she said in a week. Now there's only 2 days till you return. I hope you get a chance to say goodbye, maybe even read this letter.

Plus, if I didn't do this,

I would love to give us a chance.

Yours forever, Veronica
