Chapter Three - Juliette

I wake up to the four bland walls that make up my room. Each house in Arcadia is identical to the ones around it. The Government believes this will prevent any conflict of jealousy. Every house is a small, squat building. Plain and grey. All equal, all simple.

I blink the sleep from my eyes, and stand up from my bed. My eyes search my room until things become clear and I find my closet. I pick out an outfit. Alike my other outfits. Loose, grey slacks reaching the floor, a grey t-shirt, and grey sneakers. Again, so there is no jealousy. If there is no jealousy, it means there is just one less conflict the Government has to deal with, so everyone is given the exact same things to wear, the exact same things to eat, the exact same houses to live in, and amount of money each week. I learn to love it, along with everyone else.

When I am dressed, I make my way downstairs, and find that my mother has made breakfast already. She is usually up at this time, and she has usually been up for a while by now. My mother gets up very early, and starts on her chores, so she can go to work later, and she will have no worries about the things she needs to do later.

My mother sits at the kitchen table, looking out the window watching two birds chase each other and play in the trees, while she slowly takes a sip of her coffee. "Mom?" I ask, and her head turns to me. "Hello sweetheart, there is some breakfast on the counter if you're hungry." She tells me. I nod. "Thank you." I answer, and grab a plate from one of the cabinets and start piling food on it.

I place my plate on the table across from her, and she smiles at me. "How are you?" I smile back. "I'm alright. How have you been?" I ask her. "I'm fine. Work is stressing me a bit, but I think I'll be fine." She replies. I nod. "When do you have to leave?" She looks at the clock hanging on the wall behind me. "About a half hour. I should probably go get ready. And so should you. You have to get to school." She tells me. "Yeah." Is all I say, and I finish eating. My mother pushes away from the table and grabs her mug. She places it in the sink then goes upstairs to change for work.

After I finish my breakfast of eggs, and toast, I put my plate in the sink and climb the stairs. I enter my room and brush through my hair with the hair brush I have on my dresser.

In Arcadia, they don't allow us many belongings, only the clothes they provide for us, a dresser in our room, a bed, and any other belongings in the house that our parents give us permission to have. We don't believe in extra, unnecessary items that could be used for self indulgent purposes.

I grab my book bag, and tell my parents I'm leaving. Then I begin my trudge to school.

When I arrive at school, I quickly slip into my classroom, and slump down into my seat. The teacher walks into the classroom, and all conversations that were hearable before, are now either withered down to whispers, or have stopped completely.

"Welcome everyone, I hope you all had a good evening last night. . ." My History teacher, Ms. Blakemore, trails off. And here begins yet another wonderful day in the life of Juliette Mason.

Eventually the school day ends, and I make my way back to my house. I find that it took me less time to get home from school than it did to get to school from home. I suppose it's because I was less eager to get to school than I was to get home.

I go straight to my room, and I drop my book bag on the floor in the corner, as usual. I then flop on my bed, exhausted from another long, hard day of school. Only eight more days. Then it will all be over. I keep telling myself. Although it doesn't always work.

"Juliette? Are you home?" I hear my fathers deep, gruff voice call. "Yes! I'm upstairs!" I answer. I get off my bed and exit my room. I walk down the stairs to where the voice was coming from.

I walk into my living room to find my father sitting on the couch. "Yes?" I ask him. "Oh, nothing, I was just wondering where you were. Do you have any homework?" "Yes. I was just about to get started on it, actually." I tell him. He nods with a small smile playing on his lips. "Alright then. Kelly will be visiting tonight for dinner. I would like you to look your best please. We wouldn't want our guests getting the wrong impression, now would we?" He asks with a small chuckle.

Sometimes I think that my parents seem to forget that Kelly is my sister, and not some stranger we invited over for a dinner party. But then I scold myself for thinking such a thought. I shouldn't be thinking like that, those ideas should never cross my mind. Because that is what I am taught, so I obey.  The things I was thinking are rude, I should not ever contradict my parents, and think that their judgments are off.

I smile at my father and give him a small, curt nod. "I'll be ready. Do we know when they will arrive?" I ask. "Your mother said they scheduled for her to be here by 7:00. And you know how Kelly hates tardiness." I turn and leave the room, and head back upstairs to my bedroom.

*~*
Okay, so how is everyone doing? I'm really sorry that this chapter is so short, but I kind of just had to add this in here so that people wouldn't get confused and everything. But the next chapter will be good, and later on in the story, you will get to know all of the characters a lot better, so you will like them more and everything.

So even though it's kind of short, here is the next chapter! Just as I promised! Thank you guys SO much for adding this story, it seriously means the world to me.

I had this idea for a story a long time ago (well not really, it was like at the beginning of this year or something) and I told my friend about it. I wasn't actually planning on writing it though, because the more I thought about it, the more I really just hated the idea, and I didn't really have everything planned out for it or anything, and I thought it would just be too much work, and it wasn't worth it. But it wasn't until recently, when my friend brought it up again, and she told me that she thought it sounded like a really good story, and that I should write it, that I finally decided to write it, and now I am glad that I started it. I have gotten an okay response to it so far and I'm really hoping that continues!

Just by having one person read it, or add it, or vote, it really means ten times more than you could ever imagine. Like none of you seriously know how great it makes me feel when I see someone else has read my story, and they give me positive feedback on it and everything. It just makes me really love life, and it's great. So thank you all bunches.

I am starting to make this really long, and I'm seriously not trying to, so I'm going to end it soon, but first I have another request. I need either another 3 votes, 3 comments, or 1 follow again. And one way you can make that happen sooner is if you tell all of your friends about this story! I would love you forever, really! And I'll make a deal, the next person to comment, vote, or follow, etc. Will definitely get a shout out in my next chapter, and I promise to love them forever, and I mean forever. I will tell you everyday how much I love you if you really want me to.

Another request, I want to make this fun, so what I want you to do, is after you read this chapter, comment what your favorite. . . um. Oh! Tell me what your favorite animal is. Yeah. That is my second request for this chapter. Just so you know, I will be doing these every chapter from now on, so be prepared. If you don't do it, I ban you from reading any further. I'm just kidding! Please don't stop reading, I still love you bunches! :)

Okay, I am seriously ending this because I'm sure you all hate me now for making this like ten pages long. Probably my rant is going to be longer than the actual story, so I end it like this: Thanks all SO much for reading, and I love you bunches! :)
