Date: March 28th 1887The sun was shining bright. The sunlight was the reason why I woke up because it was on my face. I got up as I groaned because I barely slept last night. I looked at my pocket watch and it was 5:57 a.m. It wasn't late nor was it early. Breakfast was at 7 so I had to get ready and make sure that the princess was awake.
A smile formed on my lips. I was recalling all the scenes and moments that happened the night before well technically a few hours ago because it was after midnight. I felt energized after remembering how happy I was a few hours ago and I kept remembering her smiling which made me even happier because I haven't seen her smile in a very long time.
I got ready and made my way towards her chamber. I knocked on the door and I heard her reply from behind the door "I'll be out in a minute." I backed away from the door and leaned my back on the wall the opposite of her chamber doors. I crossed my arms over my chest waiting for her to walk out.
The doors of her chamber were finally opened by a servant then she walked out looking stunning as always.
She looked up at me and a smile appeared on her lips then she giggled softly as she placed her palm in front on her mouth trying to cover her smile.
I pushed myself off of the wall and greeted her. "Should we get going?" I asked her, she nodded. As we were walking down the hallway I saw Prince Jonghyun walking towards our way even though the dining room was the other way.
"Good morning princess." He said as he was smiling brightly. "Good morning." She replied smiling softly. "Shall we go?" He asked her politely, he was referring for them to go to the dining room together to have breakfast.
He looked handsome and well dressed. Maybe he was trying to make a good impression on the king and queen or maybe to impress the princess.
They both ignored my existence and kept walking towards the dining room and I was just following them. "Did you sleep well?" He asked her. "Yes I did. How about you?" "Yes I slept well maybe because I came here to Budapest early in the morning and didn't sleep well the day before." They only spoke for a little bit until we arrived to the dining room.
After breakfast they both decided to leave the castle to go out to the village. The king gave them permission and I was supposed to keep a close eye on them.
Prince Jonghyun hated me, I just knew it. Every time he came to visit the royal family and he saw me I felt like he hated the fact that I was still working for the king and maybe because I was very close to the princess while he wasn't. I saw her almost fifteen hours a day while he barely saw her a few times every few months.
"What are you doing here?" Asked the same gentleman we saw yesterday who was named Mingi. "I'm just here looking around." Answered the princess. "I'll see you soon." She added still walking.
Prince Jonghyun then dragged her away slightly from the crowd. I hurried to stop him. I grabbed his wrist and put a bit pressure on it so he'd let go of Princess Edlyn's wrist.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked furiously. "You can't just drag the princess like that. I'm here to protect her." I answered but tried to calm myself as much as I could. "Why do you keep acting like I'm going to harm her? She's my best friend, I won't let anything harm her." I could tell he was mad because I kept butting in but I couldn't just stay still and not do anything.
"So you still sneak out? I thought you stopped doing that years ago." He told the princess and she just smiled. "I feel like I'm trapped inside the castle so I sneak out every once in a while." She replied and he chuckled. "I guess you'll never change." The both looked happy keeping each other company but I on the other hand felt like I was out of their bubble.
I never knew that she started sneaking out of the castle for years, for some reason I felt a bit betrayed that Prince Jonghyun knew and I only found out the day before.
I've known the princess since she was eight. That was the first time I've ever met her. My parents were close to the king and queen even though they weren't from the same class as them. My family owned some properties and fabric stores.
The first time I visited the castle I was fifteen and the princess was only eight. My parents were invited to the castle and I remembered my parents bringing piles of one of a kind fabrics for the royal family as gifts.
The first time I laid my eyes on the princess she was in the gardens plucking roses. I walked towards her because my mother told me to play with her. I wasn't interested in playing because I was fifteen but I still went looking for her because I didn't want to stay alone in the huge castle. She looked happy and optimistic. She kept smiling which made her eyes sparkle brightly.
After that day my parents and I visited them every once in a while until the king asked my parents if I could teach the princess and be her bodyguard after he saw my fencing abilities. Especially he didn't trust anyone to be too close to her so he trusted my family and asked for me specifically.
I've been living in the castle for about three years. Since the princess was fifteen and I was twenty two. I noticed how much the princess has changed. She was still an optimistic person but not like how she was when she was a child. She was different when I say different I mean that she wasn't like any kind of princess that was rude to her servants or spoiled. She was nice, she was hoping and always wished to have a normal life. I knew her too well even though she never told me that she wanted a normal life but I could tell.
