Chapter 3

A/N: I'M SORRY!!! I've been busy with life and Vampire Diaries........but I'm back now! New semester of school starts January 6th so I'll update as much I can before then.

You were pacing back and forth. You mutter, "What have I gotten myself into?" Dark Magician Girl replied, "It can't be that bad, Y/N." You answer, "Not that bad?!? I'm duelling one of the best duellists at the academy! Jaden would probably beat me within two turns!" You heard a voice say, "Y/N Rhodes and Jaden Yuki report to the duelling quarters. Y/N Rhodes and Jaden Yuki." The female spirit remarks, "Good luck."

After that conversation, you headed to the duelling quarters. You were hiding behind a wall, trying to compose your thoughts. "Y/N?" You saw Zane, who gave you a questioning look. You ask, "What are you doing here?" Zane answers, "I was looking for you actually. Alexis asked me to come and get you." You felt yourself slide against the wall. You exhale, "I can't duel Jaden, Zane." Zane asked, "Why not, Y/N?" You reply, "Jaden is one of the best duellists here at the academy. How can I compare myself to him?" Zane gave you a strange look, "You don't have to compare yourself to Jaden, Y/N. You both have completely different duelling styles. Just duel the way you'd usually duel." Before he left Zane adds, "I like the way you duel. It makes you unique and it's something that I truly enjoy watching." You heard your name being called loudly. You ran to the duelling quarters, hoping that you weren't late.

Now I have make up an excuse for being late. You saw that Jaden looked more excited than usual. You let out a breath and apologize, "Sorry I'm late. I misplaced my deck." "Nice excuse." "Oh shut it." "Fine." Jaden waved it off and remarks, "Come on! Let's duel!" Chancellor Sheppard asked, "Are you both ready? Good luck to the both of you." You and Jaden both said, "Duel!" Jaden remarks, "I'll go first! Sweet! I summon Elemental HERO Avian in attack mode, next I'm going to summon Burstinatrix and fuse them together with Polymerization! I summon the Elemental HERO Flame Wingman and now I'll just throw down a face down to end my turn."

Alexis looked worried, "Y/N doesn't look so good." Syrus had the same expression.

You were frozen, not able to make a single move. Jaden asked, "You okay?" It was a soft and gentle voice that snapped you out of your rather small trance, "Y/N, just relax. Don't worry about what might happen after, just focus on what you're doing right now, sweets." "Valkyria, thank you." "I'm always here to help, sweet thing." You let out a breath, "My move! I place a monster in defense mode and place two cards face down to end my turn." Jaden said, "Well I'm going to win this! Alright Flame Wingman, destroy her face down monster! With Wingman's ability, if he destroys a monster in defense mode you take damage equal to the destroyed monster's ATK points." 'Should've seen that coming.' Your LP drops to 2500. You reply, "I activate the ability of the card you just destroyed! I can add a Spellcaster, Dragon or Warrior-type monster to my hand." Jaden answers, "I think I'll just end my turn."

A dark-haired boy approached Alexis and greeted her, "Hello there, Alexis." Alexis said, "Oh hey Bastion." It was Bastion Misawa of Ra Yellow. He saw Jaden and a girl duelling, sparking his curiosity. He asked, "Who's the girl duelling Jaden?" Atticus stated proudly, "That's our little sister, Y/N." Alexis ignored her brother'a exaggerated reply, "Y/N was the person I told you about before." Bastion saw you and asked, "Is this the sister that travelled with your parents a lot?" The Rhodes siblings nod. Atticus let out a sigh, "Y/N is nothing like us though, she's very calm when it comes to things like this." The dark-haired boy pointed out, "She looks like she's about to start panicking."

You look at your hand and you feel a sense of unease within you. You heard Chancellor Sheppard say, "Y/N you have to make a move or Jaden wins by forfeit." You drew a card, making his eyes widen in surprise. The words flew out of you, "I refuse to forfeit, I'm just getting warmed up." Jaden looked just as surprised as Chancellor Sheppard. You spoke with a hesitant tone, "I summon Dark Magician Girl to the field in attack mode." You then heard someone yell, "You can do it!" You pause for a moment and search for the voice. You saw that it was Atticus. You smile to yourself and continue, "Next I play the spell Sage's Stone, since I have Dark Magician Girl on the field I can special summon Dark Magician from my hand or my deck." Jaden's eyes widen once more, "I didn't know that you had those cards!" Breaker rolled his eyes, "He looks more surprised than Atticus on a holiday." You went on, "I special summon him from my hand! Next, I summon Eria the Water Charmer and fuse her with Dark Magician Girl. I summon Ara, Keeper of the Sea to the field!" You add, "Now I can activate the trap Dark Spiral Force, which lets me double the ATK of any monster I choose. Ara is going to get a power boost!" 3200>>6400. You said, "Alright Ara, give Wingman a taste of the sea! Attack with Aquarian Acrobatics!" Jaden shielded himself and he remarks, "Oh well, there's always next time." Ara comments, "He doesn't look upset about this loss at all." You sigh in relief and watch the holograms fade. 'The last thing I need is a crowd.'

Syrus looked around, "Where did she go?" Everyone shrugged at the bluenette's question.

To tell the truth, you were getting sick of being called "the sister of Atticus and Alexis". You had to leave the duelling quarters to clear your head. Unbeknownst to you, Zane had followed you from the duelling quarters. You sigh to yourself and whisper, "Why can't I be recognized as my own person? I'm not just Alexis and Atticus' sister." Zane decided he should intervene at that point. He spoke up behind you, "You're right, Y/N." You became startled for a moment. You blush, "You heard?" Zane nods, "You shouldn't be so hard on yourself." You look down and suddenly feel yourself being hugged. He adds quietly, "Don't be upset, Y/N. I'm sure Atticus is sick of answering the same question over and over again. I don't think that you should let it bother you. You're your own independent person." Zane looks out and goes on, "I don't think that you're a bad duellist, I think you're truly amazing. You just need to be more confident in yourself, Y/N." You felt your cheeks become darker as Zane kept speaking. "Zane!" The azure-haired boy let go of you quickly. Zane said, "I guess Atticus is looking for me again." He shook his head and bid you farewell.

Later on, your heart was still racing from your encounter with Zane. Ara asked, "Are you okay? You look troubled, Y/N." You reply, "I don't know, I just have this feeling. I don't know what it is but it doesn't feel good." Flame Wing replied, "You're probably just imagining these things." You respond, "Maybe you're right, you two." You add, "I am puzzled about one thing though." Ara asked, "What is it?" You answer, "Zane said something about being careful of who I talk to around here. I don't really understand." You sat on your bed, attempting to contemplate your feelings.

***One hour later***

"Y/N hurry up! We're going to be late!" You replied to Alexis, "Go on without me! I'll catch up to you later, 'Lexis." Alexis exhales and leaves the dorm. You look at your duel disk and think about your duel with Jaden. You look at the clock and your eyes widen. Dark Magician Girl said, "Don't forget your cloak. Now hurry or you'll be late now. You know how those two are when you're running late." You groan, "Don't remind me."

About five minutes later, you were in the grand dining hall. You look around and see everyone sitting together. You felt lonely since you didn't know anyone apart from your siblings or their friends Zane and Syrus. You let out a huff and mutter, "This isn't really my scene." Breaker comments, "This is way too extravagant. I mean, look at it! It looks like something out of a movie." You suddenly heard someone speak from behind you, "You look like you ain't enjoyin' this at all." You jump at the voice and turn around quickly. It was an azure-haired boy, who wore a cheeky grin. Dark Magician Girl rolls her eyes, "Great! Sometimes I wonder if all males are this dense." Your male spirits said, "Hey!" You saw a small creature sitting on the boy's shoulder. You said without thinking, "Your friend is cute." He looked surprised, "You can see Ruby?" You saw his expression change once more, "Wait a second, why are there so many spirits around you?" It was your turn to become shocked, "You can see my spirits?" He adds, "My name's Jesse, Jesse Anderson. Nice to meet you, uh...." You laugh, "Y/N, Y/N Rhodes." You admit, "I don't really like places like this. Social gatherings aren't exactly my forte." Jesse exclaims, "Wait Rhodes? As in Alexis?" You exhale, "Yeah, that's my sister." Jesse asked, "Wanna sit with me and Zane?" You froze when he asked that exact question. Amores face palmed, "You're supposed to respond, Y/N! Don't freeze up on us!" Breaker replied, "Sometimes I wonder where all that drama comes from, Amores. You're such a drama queen." You answer, "Oh sure." You follow him and see that your siblings were there as well.

Honestly, you were trying to be as quiet as possible. You were afraid that you would blurt out something very unintelligent or weird. You were sat between Jesse and Zane. You felt something jump on to your shoulder. "Kuri." "Thank you Crystal Kuriboh." Zane spoke with concern, "Are you okay, Y/N? You've been quiet this whole time." You just nod and gaze at your feet. You felt a hand on your shoulder and see Alexis with a concerned expression on her face. Alexis replied to Zane, "Y/N is just tired, Zane. She'll be fine after a good night's sleep."

What you didn't know was that something will occur that will change everything. Something that will send Duel Academy and everyone in it into a state of fear.
