Chapter 14

You couldn't focus. Zane was distracting you. Although, he wasn't even doing anything that would distract you. In all honesty: you just despised Dr. Crowler. You snuck a look at Zane who looked very focused on Crowler's words. What was going on with you?

Zane looks around and mumbles, "Where did she go this time?" Dr. Crowler said, "Zane, I'd like to speak with you for a second." Zane replies, "Yes, Dr. Crowler. Is there a problem?" Dr. Crowler nodded, "Actually there is. Remember the annual end-of-year duel?" Zane questions, "What about it?" Dr. Crowler continues, "Nominations are being put in and I am asking you if there's anyone in particular you want to duel." Zane ponders, "Well....there is one person."

Ms. Dorothy smiles, "Thank you for helping us out, Y/N." You smile, "No need to thank me." You were helping Ms. Dorothy out with the shop while Sadie had gone to the back to retrieve more card packs. You felt troubled though, although the you didn't know why. Ms. Dorothy spoke up, "You know, I never got to thank the person who saved the academy." You froze for a moment at the sudden and unexpected statement. You then hear Sadie's footsteps enter the card shop. Sadie asked, "Did I miss anything?" Amores remarks, "You missed the part where grandma here wondered who had saved the academy. Ow! Fire Empress!" Fire Empress replies, "You are rather dense sometimes, my friend. Do not speak so nonchalantly about those filthy vermin." Dark Magician Girl replies, "She's right, Amores. The battle may be over but you can't just talk about it like a poisoned memory. You have to be more careful about things like that. It's no wonder you get hit with a staff almost 75% of the time, you're so careless." Amores' voice dripped with sarcasm, "Gee, thanks for the sentiment you guys." Flame Wing asked, "Y/N....isn't that Zane?" Your eyes widen, "Oh hi Zane. What brings you here?" Zane answers, "I was looking for you." He asked, "Is it alright if I steal her away?" Sadie shook her head, "Go ahead, I think that we'll be okay for now." You blush as the Obelisk drags you out of the card shop.

You didn't understand why Zane had done that. You question, "Where are we going, Zane?" Zane answers, "You'll see. Besides, we're almost there anyway." You exhale, not bothering to question him any further.

A few minutes later, you found yourself at the docks. You then see all your friends and your classmates. You were puzzled at the sight. You then saw Chancellor Sheppard and Miss Fontaine comes towards you both. Miss Fontaine spoke first, "Y/N I'm sure you're wondering why you and Zane are here." She continues, "You saved Jasmine and Mindy from a tragic fate. Not just that, you have a heart as pure as a cherry blossom." You blush at the compliment. Alexis adds, "You didn't just save Jasmine and Mindy, you saved Duel Academy from becoming something out of a nightmare." Dark Magician Girl asked, "What's wrong? You would usually be happy at a time like this."

Everyone waited for your response but you kept silent. You finally spoke after a moment, "It wasn't just me, everyone fought with everything they had within them." The words you spoke next made everyone shocked. You spoke along with the soul within you, "Darkness will only prevail if you let it consume you. Only the heart of a duelist is pure if they believe in themselves and in their cards. Nothing can take away the bond between a duelist's cards and their heart. If you believe in yourself and your decks, it will bring you closer to the goal that you wish to reach." Dark Magician's eyes widen, "The last time I heard these words was when the maiden herself was fighting alone." Zane (along with everyone else) was staring in surprise. You rub the back of your neck in embarrassment, "I may have gotten a bit carried away there." Valkyria smiles to herself, "That's why I care for you deeply. I love that side of you, Y/N. It is one that I will always cherish." Jaden shook his head, "No way Y/N, you're totally right." You said, "I am? How?" It was Zane who spoke up, "Everyone shares a bond with their deck." Alexis adds, "I never realized how important it was until I saw how fired up you were while you were duelling." You look at everyone's faces, "Everyone." Jaden then said, "Hey Y/N, let's duel! I want a rematch!" You smile, "Okay, you're on!"
