Chapter 5

You were glad that there was no class today. The last thing on your mind right now was the droning sounds of Crowler speaking ruefully about the Slifer Red students. You were currently in the library doing some major studying. Okay, not exactly "studying" more like research. You were still shaking from the appearance of those strange creatures. Not only that, there was also a report about students disappearing mysteriously from the grounds of the academy.

About ten minutes later, you felt like you were getting nowhere. Valkyria notices something on the corner of the computer screen, "Y/N look!" You became confused, "I don't understand, Valkyria. What does that icon have to do with the disappearing students on campus?" She then disappears when a voice said, "What are you up to?" You were expecting to see Alexis or Atticus but came face to face with a certain Zane Truesdale. You reply, "I thought you'd be with your real friends, Zane. By real, I mean Atticus or Lex. Why me? Why did you come here out of all places, Zane?" He didn't respond immediately but you could tell that he was hesitant. His eyes were speaking through the changing colour in his pupils. Zane finally spoke, "I was worried about you." Dark Magician Girl appeared and remarks, "That's the first time I've heard him say that." Valkyria appeared a minute later and scolds her younger sister, "You shouldn't just butt in like that. Leave them be now, Dark Magician Girl." Zane adds, "I'm being honest. I really am worried about you, Y/N. Ever since those disappearances, I've been thinking about you." You felt your heart race as he spoke. Zane went on, "As much as I care about Atticus, he can be a bit annoying sometimes. Alexis is nice but I like it when you're around." He brushed a piece of your hair behind your ear, making you blush.

It had been about ten minutes later. Zane was sitting beside you as you typed random words into the computer database. Zane questions, "What are you looking for exactly?" You answer, "Anything. I just want to find some kind of clue. One that will shed some light on these disappearances." Zane thought to himself, "She looks determined. She actually looks— Wait! I can't like her like that! Atticus would murder me!" You let out a gasp and Zane became concerned. You felt a sensation through the computer screen and it felt strange. Zane was about to ask what was wrong but was interrupted by the sound of a sudden explosion. You ran out of the library, with Zane following behind.

Consequently, you were both met with the eyes of a bewitched Alexis Rhodes. Alexis. You said, "Leave my sister alone!" Alexis smirks, "You have no way of saving her, human! This girl does not need the soul of a pure human, she deserves one filled with the ferocity of the shadows!" She saw Zane and remarks, "Your little boyfriend looks annoyed, how about I give him a little present?" You saw a small wave of energy, it's aura filled with the cries of the perished and the innocent. You scream, "Zane!" You watch him get up and reply, "I'm fine, Y/N." Valkyria asks, "What does that thing want with your sister?" You didn't answer but felt the aura turn onyx around Zane, trapping him. You heard Zane grunt in discomfort as the possessed Alexis cackled.

You were stuck, you didn't know what to do. "Y/N, Zane!" You suddenly saw Atticus and the others calling out to you. You warn, "Don't come closer! If you do, you'll be trapped like Zane!" Alexis's inhuman voice replies, "The only way you can banish me is by defeating me in a duel, mortal!" Duel, but...I can't even duel without being extremely self-conscious. How can I face someone that is better than me? "Go get 'em Y/N!" That was Jaden's reply to the spirit. Atticus adds, "You got this, Y/N! Bring Lex back!" You said to the dark spirit, "Alright, I accept your challenge."

Your mind was filled with anxious thoughts. Was this what fear felt like to you? You both said, "Duel!" You whisper, "Lexie. Please don't do this." You felt lost and you felt a piece of yourself fade indefinitely.

Atticus flinched and Syrus asked, "Are you okay?" Atticus replied, "It's like I can feel Y/N's pain." The two boys had the same reaction as Atticus. Yubel said to Jaden, "Jaden, we've somehow been brought to the shadow realm. The pain your friend feels is somehow being felt through the words she speaks to herself." Jaden saw how distraught you were by the sudden duel with Alexis. Jaden said, "Atticus, you have to snap her out of those thoughts." Atticus asked, "How am I going to do that?"
