ISAIAH
Flipping through the newly-printed pages in my hands, the tips of my finger felt rough as they brushed through the dusty surface of each leaves of the papers. My eyes were brushing past the thousands of letters, hundred of words, thousands of phrases, but inside my mind, only a few of them stuck; the rest where just washed away by flood of thoughts about the previous meeting.
Licorice and Fallow.
I didn't know there will come a time that these two large packs would convene to prepare for the future; even at the least, to gather at the same place without flashing fangs to each other. It happened though probably because it was the Beta's who lead the meeting. They were exceptional, and needless to say, they get along so well.
It was supposed to be us. The Alphas. Me and Keenan.
But that douche bag was not here. I didn't need to know where he headed to. Because it was way too obvious.
He was with Callie.
I almost went ahead of him, almost gave in to my emotions and doubts that Callie would be safe. But I tightened my leash. The absence of both alphas will create so much havoc with the elders. Absence of a noticeable number of were's tonight already started murmurs and I didn't want to fuel the embers. They would surely notice that something was going on in the camp.
Keenan knew this much.
But he still continued on, not thinking twice of the circumstances. I was starting to doubt that that bastard was totally heartless.
Sighing a mouthful puff of breath, I threw the pile of papers on the oak table, crossed my arms and leaned my hips against the edges and stared at the black sky outside the window. So many thoughts and voices were swimming inside my head from the meeting earlier.
We had gathered information that increasing rogue attack lately was not just coincidental, it was an attempt of an organization to infiltrate and gather whatever data they were after. Some had surmised it was the non-ending wealth of Licorice they were after, some even speculated that it was an organization of packs we've beaten along time ago.
But boy, they were so wrong. I was just sitting at the corner of the room, listening to their bursts of opinions, trying to keep myself from blurting out the truth.
They were after Keenan- the supposedly deceased Ezekiel Hawksworth. I bet they knew that he was the Timberwolf everyone was so frightened at once upon a time.
The family name "Hawksworth" was never known by anyone until two years ago when news spread that the most dangerous underground family of assassins was annihilated.
Every pack in the world knew that there was someone behind all the killings, a pack that was created to sneak around the darkness, just to do their mission- just to kill. Only few knew them, only tight lips knew their names, because most probably, absolute secrecy was included in every code exchanged between two parties. Other considered them as myth, a creation of imagination because some wouldn't believe that werewolves could engage in such heartless living.
