CALLIE
I didn't ask you to wait.
Those six words were confined on the four corners of the bathroom, repeating endlessly on my head with increasing intensity. It was as if Zeke purposely left them there to slap me the truth and to destroy all my hopes that my feelings would be reciprocated.
Looking down at the drain below my feet, I watched how bubbles accumulate on top of it as they dribbled down from my legs along with the warm water. My face was bent low, curtained with long red strands of dripping wet hair.
I swallowed painfully. It was true, though.
From all the hang-outs we had, he never asked me to wait for him. To be honest, it was all him from the beginning. He was always the one sitting on the grass, patiently anticipating for my arrival.
And now, for the first time, I waited for him. But it turned out, it was for nothing.
I realized that never finding the person you've been waiting for was less painful than actually finding the person but learning that he never for a bit appreciated your effort.
Reaching for the knob in the wall, I twisted it until the rain coming from the round magical metal turned into droplets of water. Sighing heavily, I stepped out from the steamy cubicle. As soon as I am outside the warm haven, goosebumps crept along my limbs and my jaw started rattling. Wrapping my arms around my body, I searched for the towel that could save me from freezing. Maybe it was a mistake to take a bath with almost boiling water and stepping out immediately. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw my skin tearing off on this instant.
Seeing a towel on my left, I rushed to pick it up. Being in a hurry to relieve myself from cold, I totally forgot about the slippery floor and the simple concept about friction.
Everything happened so fast. One second, I was dashing towards the sink; the next second, my world was turning upside down. Before I could grab something to prevent me from slipping, my body came crashing on the floor, creating a loud 'thump' as the back of my head hit the rigid ground.
My eyes, wide in shock, found myself face-to-face with the ceiling. Not a second longer, a numbing burn spread on my head followed by a stab of pain on my back.
Squeezing my eyes shot, and gritting my teeth, I stopped myself from crying due to the intense discomfort covering my body. I couldn't even pinpoint where it was coming from. It shook me to my core, I failed to notice that someone was banging on the door, shouting if I was okay.
I was only jolted back to reality when I heard the door fly open, its frame shaking as it slammed loudly on the wall.
Before I could think properly, my sole chance to save myself from humiliation was ruined when Zeke suddenly appeared in front of me, panting. He stood there, looking at me with a worried expression.
However, when he took in my appearance, his eyes shifted abruptly with carnal need. And me? I was left rooted on my spot, too shocked to move my aching limbs. I caught his eyes raking across my body, painfully slowing down on my breasts and between my slightly open legs, before going back again to my bosom. When our eyes met, I noticed how his initially sapphire eyes changed to clouded blue orbs. He turned away immediately, his body quivering.
I just stared at his toned back, my mouth dry.
What just happened?
Counting slowly inside my head, I tried to calm myself as the embarrassing truth sunk on my being. The throbbing pain was totally forgotten as a single idea kept repeating on my mind.
