Sunlight streamed through the windows of the small cabin. As I set up in bed, I stretched my sore limbs. After I was fully awake, I checked my phone on the nightstand.
I had a couple missed calls from mom and mamaw and an unread text. The unread text was from Jaquline.
From Jacquline:
Hey! I'm heading to Cheyenne to watch you run. If you tell me where you are, we can meet up sometime.
My fingers quickly typed a response.
To Jacquline:
Hey Jackie! I'm staying at a ranch on the outskirts of Cheyenne. It's called Freedom Ranch. We definitely need to hang out when you get here!
I didn't wait for a response as I quickly changed clothes. I slipped on a pair of jeans and a black tank top. As I was slipping on my boots there was a knock on the cabin door. Opening the door, I saw an older lady standing.
"I'm Amelia. I work for the Freedom Ranch as a cabin cleaning. I'm here to change you're sheets for you." She said.
Amelia had short brown hair that was slightly greying on the sides. I could tell she was friendly by the kind look in her soft brown eyes. I explained to her that I needed to go out for a few hours and she could lock up after she was done.
"Do you need towels or anything?"Amelia asked.
"No, I don't think so. Thank you!" I told her.
"You're welcome!" She said before starting her work on the cabin. I closed the cabin door behind me as I walked out.
I had a busy day ahead of me. First, Eagle and Maybelline needed to be working on the pattern some. Then, I needed to go into town to do some last minute things before the Rodeo Saturday. Finally, my day would finish with a date with Brayden.
Eagle had just finished her breakfast as I entered the barn. The other horses neighed as Eagle was tacked up and walked to the indoor area. A couple people were brushing down their horses. One was a beautiful grey dappled gelding and the other was a black gelding with a white blaze down his face. Both horses were in impeccable shape.
I walked Eagle into the indoor arena and began to warm her up. Once she was warmed up I began to work her on drills. Barrels had already been set up before I got to the barn. After a short ride I cooled Eagle off and took her back to her stall. Eagle was brushed off before I repeated this same process with Maybelline.
Maybelline was worked a little longer than Eagle, because of her lack of experience. I wiped the sweat off of my brow before putting away my tack.
...............
The ride into town was a short one. Cheyenne was only 15 minutes away at most. The city was bustling with life. Most of the buildings were old, but well kept. I drove through town until I came to 'Murdochs'. I switched off the ignition of my truck and got out. I locked the doors behind me as I walked towards the store entrance.
I pushed my shopping buggy down the aisles to the Equine Department. I stocked up on all of Maybelline's and Eagle's supplements. I had them both on joint, digestive, and tendon and ligament supplements. The supplements were added to the horse's feed to help them eat it better.
Once I had everything I needed from "Murdochs', I checked out and put the things in my truck. I read over my small grocery list after I put the buggy back and got into the truck. I couldn't buy a lot of things, because I don't think they would fit in the mini fridge in the cabin.
I went to Walmart and pushed the shopping cart back to the produce department. The few fresh items I got to be a carton of cherry tomatoes, a bag of romaine lettuce, a purple onion, baby carrots, and a red and yellow pepper. At the end of the aisle was a shelf of salad toppings. I put a bag of croutons, bacon bits, and black olives into the buggy. The buggy squeaked as I pushed it back to the dairy products.
There was a young women standing in front of the feta cheese.
"Excuse me. Could you please hand me that tub of cheese?" I asked politely.
She handed me the cheese.
"Thank you!" I told her.
"You're welcome." She said before returning her gaze on the products in front of her.
I went on down to the frozen food section. I only picked up a couple breakfast foods that would most likely not even fit in the mini fridge. I checked the time before rushing to the cash registers and checking out. Once I was finished putting the groceries and the buggy away, I climbed into my truck.
It was 2:00pm when I pulled out of the parking lot. I realized that I had skipped breakfast this morning when my stomach growled. I saw there was a Hardee's across the street, so I pulled through the drive thru. I ordered my food and pulled around to the window where I paid and received my food.
I drove back through the midday traffic munching on my chicken strips and fries. After fifteen minutes of driving, I pulled into the driveway leading to Freedom Ranch.
Turning off my truck I gathered my bags up and carried them into the cabin. I put the groceries away in the mini fridge. It took a lot of work to get what needed to be in the freezer part.
Once I had everything put away, I went back to the truck and put the supplements in my trailer for safe keeping. Pulling the phone from my back pocket I checked the time once more.
It was a quarter past four by the time I was finished with everything. I flopped down on the bed and flipped on the tv. I flipped through the channels before flipping the TV completely off. Before I could fall asleep, I turned an alarm on for 5:45.
The annoying beeping sound of the alarm on my phone woke me up. I woke up from my sleep startled. I wiped the drool from the corners of my mouth before turning off the alarm. I walked out to my trailer to find something to wear. I had a dark blue sundress hanging in my closet. Taking it and a pair of flats I walked back to the cabin and took a shower.
Once I stepped out of the shower, I wrapped a towel securely around me. Walking back to the room, I took my blow dryer out of my bag. I quickly blow dried my hair and applied my makeup. The whole time I was getting ready, I keep watch at the time.
A few minutes before seven o'clock I slipped on my dress and shoes. As I was finishing spraying myself with perfume there was a knock on the door.
