The place looks the same.
The playground looks the same.
The trees, they grew old, but still the same.
The benches, the garbage cans beside them, they are used, some are damaged, but still, the same.
Even the people who are passing by, she recognized them.
And still, they are the same.
Just like her.
She grew, she aged, her features matured, her body changed. Everything about her changed.
But she still feels the same.
She is the same old her ten years ago.
And as she sits on this same bench that reminds her what happened ten years ago, it only validates her feeling.
It is the same.
They say the only constant in world is change.
Then why is her feelings not part of the change?
Because you don't want to change, her mind argues.
I did. I tried. All my damn best.
But it's still the same.
Until when she's gonna be like this?
The million dollar question that she's been searching for the answer since ten years ago.
She heaved a deep sigh.
"Excuse me, miss, but are you okay?"
She was brought back to reality with that question and looked at the person who asked. She was in deep thought she didn't recognize someone already sat beside her.
And why does he look familiar?
"Miss?"
"I'm sorry?"
"I was asking if you're okay?"
"I am. Why did you ask?"
"You did that deep breathing I thought you're having a heart attack."
"What do you know about heart attack, kid?"
Yes, her intruder was a kid. A ten-year old one, more or less.
"I'm not a kid! I'm nine, almost ten years old! And as much as I wanted you to leave this bench, I couldn't. You seem so deep in thought I thought you're already having a heart attack!"
"Oh, okay, sorry young man!"
"My mommy died from it."
"What?"
"Heart attack. She died from it."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I never knew her anyway."
"Why do you want me to leave this bench? Is this yours? Do you own this seat? Do you own this place? As far as I know, this park is for public. Anyone can come here anytime they want and they can sit in this place anytime they want."
"I'm sorry for being rude, miss. I just wanted to be alone and you're sitting at my favorite spot. And please, don't mind my outburst earlier. I'm just angry with my dad, that's all. Just, just, just ignore I'm sitting here, and I'll forget the same."
And the kid looked away from her.
He looks like he wanted to cry.
But if he said ignore him, she would. She's here to think, not to meddle with other people's problems. Especially kid's problem.
