Peeta
I sit in the dock, watching the sunset, pretty happy to be where i am in life. Junior year went by in a flash after Homecoming. Katniss became a flyer for the basketball cheerleaders and exceeds their expectations, flipping through the air as nimble as a cat. They've started calling her the Mockingjay, saying she flies like a bird.
I played for the team, but I was on JV. The advantage to that was I could watch Katniss more closely because I didn't have to pay attention so much during the varsity games. She always looks stunning standing there in the cheer leading uniform. I've found that since I've gotten to know her, I love her even more.
But now that's all over. Even Prom has come and gone, which sucked because Katniss got Chicken Pox that week. But now it's the first day of Sumer break and we're all hang around Glimmer's beach house since the weather's nice. I hear a noise behind me and look up to see Katniss standing at the end of the dock. She has on a dark green bikini with a camo tube top and cut off shorts over it. Some people would think it looks trashy but in my opinion, Katniss pulls it off elegantly. She walks across and sits next to me, dangling her legs in the water. Her bright pink painted toes flick through the water like little fish as she swings her legs.
"What you doing hanging out here by yourself?" she asks and I shrug.
"I don't know," I say. "Hearing Marvel talk about how he finally got laid got pretty boring." She laughs at that and flips her braid over her shoulder.
"Well lets just say Glimmer's side of the story is what led me out here," she says. "There are just some things I'd rather leave to the imagination." I laugh with her and that's when I notice something though her shirt, poking out from her stomach. I reach out to touch it and she swats my hand away.
"What's that?" I ask and she shoots me a look.
"You weren't supposed to see that yet," she says. "It was going to be a surprise."
"What is it?" I ask again and she sighs, rolling up her shirt enough to reveal the green jeweled belly ring I'd suspected she'd gotten for a while now. "And how long have you been hiding that?" She looks down at it and shrugs.
"Four, maybe five weeks ago," she said. "I convinced my mom to let me get it for my birthday. I figured you'd like it."
"What was the point of it?" I ask.
"I wanted one," she says. "I thought it'd be cute."
"It is," I say and she laughs.
"Well that's a relief," she says. "I thought you'd think its slutty."
"It's not on you," I say. "I know how you are."
"I'm just happy it finally healed up," she says. "It hurt a lot to get it caught on things when I first got it."
"I can imagine," I say and she turns to look behind us and then looks back at me.
"They're starting a camp fire," she says. "You wanna go back up?"
"If you want to," I say and she hops up onto the dock and starts walking up. I follow her up and suddenly she stops. She turns to me and I see a mischievous glint in her eyes. "What now?"
"Can I ride on your back?" she asks and I give her a look.
"Why?" I ask.
"Why not?" she says and I sigh, realizing that trying to fight her like this will get me no where. I allow her to climb on my back. She wraps her arms around my neck and lays her head on my shoulder. She laughs in my ear and I hear her change her voice. "Strong with the Force young Skywalker is." I shoot her a look.
"Do that again and this is the last time I carry you around," I say and she laughs.
"I'd take that bet," she says. "I know you like carrying me around far too much." I shake my head, knowing she's right and carry her the rest of the way up to the fire. I dump her in a chair and she falls over. She shoots me a look as our friends laugh at her. She sets her chair back up and goes over to where Glimmer and Tara are chatting next to a very bored looking Johanna. Mavel walks up to me and hands me a Mountain Dew.
"You've got your hands full with that one," he comments and I just laugh.
"Yeah," I say. "But you can't really help who you love." He shakes his head.
"Yes," he says. "I have enough trouble with Glimmer's attitude, but when you get your girl mad, I would not like to be in your shoes." I look over to where she's laughing with her friends.
"I don't know what a girl like that could possibly see in a guy like me," I say and he laughs.
"With her looks, I don't know how you've kept your hands off her this long," he says and I notice she showing off the newly healed jewelry that adorns her flat, toned stomach.
"You're really judging me," I say. "You've been kissing Glimmer's ass for two years."
"And now look where I am," he says holding his arms out. "I'm a new man who is gettin' some tonight!" I just roll my eyes as he walks away. But as I watch her over across the yard, talking with her friends, I can't help but wonder what it would be like with her. She's never really brought it up. Its not something that really comes up in our conversations of which car is faster or wether Coke or Pepsi is the better cola. It does cross my mind from time to time, but I just shake it off.
But as the season of tan lines and bikinis starts, I can't help but wonder if sleeping with Katniss is becoming a real possibility.
