It was April 8th 2014, a quiet day although the weather was pretty terrible, constant rain storms with the occasional pause. The weather had no signs of cheering up so all that was left was to wait out the darkened skies which only continued to darken as the day dragged on. The time was 11:10 in the morning and much like the weather it's gloominess just seemed to drag on. Everyone seemed in a zombie like state other than the younger years at Clifftop Park High School. Clifftop High was known for its decent grades and it's out of hours learning scheme which made it the ideal place parents would send their children to study. There was one student who was in high spirits however and his name was Sam Lee, he was in his final year of Clifftop and he was excited yet nervous to leave there and step out into the wide world. He would have bills to pay and quite frankly that scared him...it scared a lot of people.
Sam was just above average height, he had gelled short brown hair, incredibly skinny and that was something he hated about himself. As for his academic performance, he wasn't stupid and was far from it...or so his mother always told him, but then again he wasn't the smartest in his year. Sam was more worried about what he would have for a snack when he got home as opposed to the heaps of exams that would soon come his way. The hallways of Clifftop High were rammed with students darting this way and that similar to a busy traffic jam. Sam turned the corner and examined his blue planner which he pulled from his bag, he had Chemistry next with Mrs. Fard.
“Hey dude, wait up!” Sam turned around to see a boy taller than him dodging the crowd whilst running towards him, his name was Toby . Now Toby was never the most graceful of people and he and Sam had been friends for around the eleven years they had been at school together.
Toby was a couple of inches taller than Sam, he had medium length dirty blonde hair and like Sam was incredibly skinny, yet put no weight on him whatsoever. As for his academic performance he had trouble when it came to speech, he could never quite use the right word, like he meant to say forte but instead said fatigue. The rest of the group that Sam and Toby stood with and saw outside of school didn't care, if anything it provided some sort of amusement for them. Toby like Sam and most of the group for that matter was a gamer and he had his dream of buying a Mini Cooper, little did he know that he would have to drive everyone everywhere when he got it.
“Hey Toby, how's it going?” Toby was out of breath from the run he had just underwent. “Yeah I'm good thanks man, and you?” Sam nodded “All is well of course, except my mum put cucumber in my sandwiches instead of peanut butter!” Sam gave a little disheartened look towards his friend. Toby laughed “You seen James today? I was looking for him earlier but couldn't find him anywhere.” Sam shrugged “I reckon he's under the canopy or something?” The two of them then began to walk in the direction of the canopy area in Clifftop High and to their avail, James was there just looking out at the rain whilst drumming on a metal bar holding the shelter above him.
James was a little bit shorter than Sam was, he had medium length blonde hair, he was medium build from when he used to swim a lot so he had pretty good stamina. As for his academic performance he was pretty good, when it came to maths he was a total boss, he and Sam had known each other since they were at the same babysitters together. Then they had been in the same schools together ever since. James was also part of the group that Sam and Toby were in, which meant he too was a gamer. James was very particular about spelling and grammar, even in online chats he would use all of the correct punctuation.
Toby approached James “Dude, what are you doing out here by yourself?...just looking that rain?” James nodded “Yeah pretty much, that and I am recovering from my late night last night wa-” Sam cut in “Let me guess, you were watching videos on Youtube?” James nodded “Yeah pretty much”.
Toby turned to look up at the canopy area, he had never really spent much time here, he never felt the need to do so. Sam looked down at his silver watch and saw that they only had fifteen minutes left of break. “Come on guys, let's go and find the others, I do want to eat at least some of my sandwiches you know.” Then he remembered that he had cucumber and not peanut butter. His face was filled with the same disheartened look from earlier.
