Lucas Friar had done everything he possibly could to marry the love of his life. And I'm not kidding when I say everything. He wanted Maya to have something grand and spectacular on their big day, he just didn't know how to pay for it.
Now I know what you're thinking, why didn't his and Maya's parents help them pay for the wedding? Well, Maya's mom almost didn't make enough to supply for herself, and Maya's dad had been MIA for so long, she didn't consider him to be her dad, and she didn't want him involved in any way shape or form for her wedding. But, instead of saying that to his face, she said she'd be okay without his help.
And well, Lucas's mom and dad didn't like Maya. They didn't approve of their relationship, so they refused to help get them married.
After Lucas sold most of his stuff, he realized that he still didn't have enough to help get even 5 things from Maya's dream wedding plan, and he wanted to give her everything from it, so he turned to Maya's un-biological families. He asked for Shawn's blessing to marry her, so he wanted Shawn to be involved with the wedding in any way he wanted to.
Now the Matthew's were a different story. They wanted to help the minute they found out Maya and Lucas were even engaged. Riley, who was Maya's M.O.H, wanted to help pay for most of Maya's things, I mean she was married to a billionaire's son, Farkle Minkus, and since her big day was so whimsical and magical, plus Maya helped Riley through all of her big transitions, she felt it was only fair to help Maya with hers as well.
August, who was now 13, the same age Maya and Lucas were when they first met on the subway, wanted to be involved, but didn't know how. So, Lucas told him he could be the ring bearer.
Cory and Topanga, they were Maya's 2nd parents, so they were willing to help out in Maya's wedding by helping plan the venues, and buy her dress, etc. They wanted to be involved with everything, which Lucas was grateful for.
And then there were the Minkus's. Jennifer didn't know Maya all too well, so she didn't know how to be involved with this, but Maya was like a daughter to Stuart, so he helped pay for mostly everything.
But there were two things Lucas didn't let anyone buy, no matter how much they asked him. He refused to let anyone get the cake. It was something he'd worked on for quite awhile, and no one had seen what it looked like, not even Maya. He wanted to pay for that himself, because on it, was something they bonded over.
He also wanted to pay for the photoshoot done afterwards. He knew how intimate these were, and he wanted it to be something for just Maya and him. After 9 months of preparation, there he was, standing at the alter, waiting for his beautiful bride to come down the aisle and see everything he'd worked for. Wether it was finding people to help him pay for it, or simply setting up the venue, Lucas had worked on the wedding so it was everything Maya had ever dreamed of.
And it was.
Maya cried, laughed, cry laughed, and everything in between. But most of all, she never wanted the day to end.
