Chapter 5
“You must tell me when he wakes up, Leander. I won’t be able to rest until he wakes up…” I heard my sister’s very-worried voice, and internally frowned again. Ashe was definitely getting overly-worried about me. I was just perfectly fine. She should be spending more time with her husband, not me.
Kenton would really be jealous of me, and I didn’t want a bloodthirsty vampire hanging on my back, jealous of the attention my hot sister was trying to give me because it was overdue. Hey, I didn’t need such pampering. I was seventeen years old. Wasn’t it the time of my life that my sister and parents should be letting go?
“I promise you, Ms. Alveron. Please, have a good rest and don’t you worry about him. I’ll take care of him like my life depended on it.” An unfamiliar voice –that probably belonged to this ‘Leander’ guy –replied my sister. It kind of struck me weird that he called her Ms. Alveron.
“He’s going to be alright, Ashe. It’s just triggering of memories of the crash. Maybe his mind is finally opening doors to the horror.” A voice that was distantly familiar comforted my sister.
“I’m not going to stop worrying until he wakes up, Xavier. I never realized how much I was neglecting Raun until the wedding. I barely knew anything about my brother! We were so close before I came here, and after everything happened, I realized I hadn’t spent even a single day alone with him! I don’t know anything about Raun anymore, Xavier. It’s a miracle how he’s still there for me after eleven years.”
How was it a miracle? I saw no miracle in that, just love for my sister. She had taken such good care of me before she left for the school, and I knew she still loved me. So, despite her neglecting me for the past eleven years, I was still by her side. Because I knew she still loved me, and she needed me to smile at her and remind her that she still had such a handsome brother like me to love.
“Well, then spend some time with him before he starts school to know him better. There’s the Council Dinner right before school starts? Talk and mingle with him then. I’m sure Raun doesn’t mind.”
“I hope he’s fine enough by then. It was nice meeting you, Leander. I hope you and Raun can get on well, and please pardon him for any crazy stuff he does. My little brother is a little hyperactive, and he usually gets on people’s nerves easily. So forgive him if he does that, okay?” Ashe said, and I sighed quietly. I didn’t need a nanny helping me make friends. I was pretty sure this Leander guy and me could get on pretty well.
“It’s okay, Ms. Alveron. I’ve wanted to have a roommate for long. It’s good to know I finally have someone to share the room with. It was getting boring with me alone here.” Leander replied, and it dawned on me that this was my room. Finally, I was in my very own room. Well, my very-own-shared-with-Leander-room.
“I have to leave for some Council duties now, Leander, but don’t be afraid to call me on my cell when Raun wakes up. I’ll be here in a minute once you call.”
For a moment, my sister sounded like an insecure girlfriend trying to catch her boyfriend cheating on her. I hid my laughter and maintained a sleeping façade as I waited for footsteps out the door, then the sound of a door closing.
“They gone yet?” I whispered quietly, opening one eye just a slit to peek at the room.
“You’re awake!” The Leander guy exclaimed, and I watched as he bounced over to the door, ready to call my sister back.
“Don’t call her back! There’s a reason why I pretended to be asleep, man.” I stopped him quickly, and he froze with a hand on the doorknob.
