Pic of Blake and Maddie's cake^^^
Maddie's POV:
It was game day. I couldn't walk five feet down the hall without a whisper or mutter carrying the message. Students came to school in full spirit wear, carrying around face painting kits and stuffing wigs and foam fingers into their lockers.
Even parents were getting involved. Areas of the parking lot were already marked off in chalk where tailgaters were planning to party.
This morning Mr. and Mrs. Knight both mentioned how they hoped to see the game. Of course, we couldn't leave Johnny and Luke home by themselves so they were going to tag along. I told them about Blake's parents going and they said it would be great to meet them.
It was without a doubt the biggest game of the year. Sure, state champs were important too but the rivalry game between the Lincoln High Falcons and the Madison Heights Pirates was one game talked about above others. Each year the two schools played each other in football on the same day and same time. It was outside regulation football but that meant we could play for a trophy. It was the same trophy every year and the winning team would get it for the year.
The last five years the Pirates had won but last year we had come so close. We were a touchdown and extra point away from taking that trophy. This year, we were going to finally get that trophy.
"Wow, it's like for a day, there's no such thing as popularity," Kylee commented to me as we walked down the hall.
It was true. Everyone was talking to each other. Cheerleaders were hounding the science geeks about the probability of winning and the Jocks were just talking to anyone and everyone in general.
One jock caught my eye.
"Blake!" I called, walking towards him and dragging Kylee behind me.
"Hey Mads!" he called, meeting me halfway.
The nickname was new, but I let it slide. This was a big day and I actually didn't dislike the name. A small blush came to my face.
"Are you ready?" I asked to fill the space. He and I both knew it.
"Hell, yeah!" Jake and Colton jumped in, slapping Blake's hair and rubbing his hair.
Blake chuckled and pushed them away.
"Woah!" Jake said, catching sight of Kylee standing off to the sight.
"And who are you?" he said, slightly wiggling his eyebrows. Kylee and I giggled. Who knew Jake was such a flirt.
Kylee started talking to him but I was distracted by Blake.
"Did you bring the cake?" I asked, a little nervous.
"All taken care of. Got Mr. Fiddle to put it in the teacher's fridge."
"Awesome!" I said.
The warning bell rang and students started shuffling to class.
"See you in science!" I called before Blake was swept up in the crowd.
"It's a date!" he called back.
My face flushed so red. Kylee laughed out loud at my expression and then dragged me away.

"Maddie and Blake"
Mr. Fiddle called our names as we made our way to the front of the classroom. I had grabbed the cake in between classes and now carefully carried it with me. Mr. Fiddle was thoughtful enough to put a table in the front of the room and I struggled to set it down.
"I got it," Blake said, gently taking the cake and setting down on the table.
"Thanks" I grinned.
A scoff came from my right and I turned to see Tara sitting with her partner Nick, and glaring at me.
I swallowed and looked to Mr. Fiddle to begin. While I was catching up on homework in the Library, I decided to write a small paper to explain our cake. I showed it to Blake last night and he loved the idea. I had highlighted the parts we would each read so there would be no confusion.
I was ready.
"For our group project on animal cells, Blake and I decided it would be fun to make a 'cell cake' to represent 3-dimensionally and tastefully, what it would look like," I said. It earned a few chuckles from the students, even Mr. Fiddle, and I took it as a good sign.
"In an animal cell the cell membrane holds the whole structure together, shown through our base layer of frosting-" Blake said, going on to speak about the different parts.
By the end of our speech, Mr. Fiddle had a resting smile on his face and it really just lifted his spirits.
"I hope you all enjoyed our speech portion of the project. I said, walking back to my seat. Then I reached into my bag and took out plates and forks that Mrs. Knight had given me this morning.
"Now it's time for the best part." Blake finished for me. The students all sat straighter and became more alert. They knew what was coming.
"I give you the honors," I told Blake jokingly, handing him the plastic knife.
"Thank you." He said.
While he cut the cake, I walked around and served it. From the satisfied sighs from the students, I was going to assume it was a success.
Finally, Blake and I took our own slices.
We took no time and dug in.
And let me tell you.
That was one damn good animal cell.
